Harvard Archaeologists Excavated Indian Mound in 1877—Found Lots, Price High

Check out this report from the Peabody Museum at Harvard University, published in 1880. It details the excavations done at the Ely Indian Mound halfway between Rose Hill and Ewing in 1877. Unfortunately, an earth fall at the excavation site claimed the life of one of the researchers, but many important discoveries were made. Read it all for yourself in this copy of the report from the Peabody Museum. See page 85 of the PDF (page 75 of the original document) for the “Report on the Exploration of a Mound in Lee County, Virginia”.
