Jen Psaki the press secretary of the White House on Monday referred to the images of a U.S. Border agent who was on Patrolon horseback chasing Haitian migrants as horrific. Even after calling the agent horrific, he denied saying what consequences will be taken for his actions.
Psaki was continuously asked to comment his views on the “photos of the agents on horseback chasing the Haitian migrants” and whether it was professional behavior.
Psaki said to reporters at White House briefing that she had seen some of the video captured. And she doesn’t have the full idea of the scenario. She even said she doesn’t have any clear idea of what would make this appropriate and she doesn’t have additional information. She also added that she doesn’t think anyone would find the footage appropriate or accept it.
Psaki asked about the image of Border Patrol agent with apparent whip: ‘obviously horrific’
Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas was even questioned about the photo while visiting Del Rio, Texas. There were more than 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants who were present in the border bridge. He also mentioned the reporter who asked him about the footage also assumed the facts and suggested it was possible the agent was simply holding a long rein.
He then continued that to make sure the control of the horse, long reins are used. But they are going to investigate the facts to ensure that the situation is under control and if any changes are seen they will take action appropriately
A photographer named Paul Ratje clicked and showed in the agent on horseback holding one of the migrants while the man was trying to cross into the United States from Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, on Sunday. The El Paso Times charged the agent had charged his horse f shouting, “Let’s go! Get out now! Back to Mexico!”
A Reuters filed a report from the same location and explained a law enforcement officer was using a lariat and whipping really close to the face of a migrant. It’s not yet clear if it was the same agent.
Psaki was asked o about the images and was asked if the use of whips was something the Biden administration allowed.
She even addressed the image of the incident as “horrible to watch and said “they have to get more information on that. She even said d if the agent should be fired and should not be able to do this again
Monday evening the Department of security made a statement and said the agency will not tolerate the abuse of migrants and they take these allegations very seriously. The statement said they are also investigating the matter.
The Homeland Security secretary was also guided by Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, who defended his agency’s use of horses, and said that these horses play an important part in the security
Ortiz said he does not know the difference between the smugglers or the migrants, so it’s important that those agents maintain a level of security for themselves and for the migrants as they were trafficking back and forth,
