The storyline features a dystopia after the Second American Civil War where fertile women called “Handmaids” to childbearing slavery a totalitarian society.

The first season of the series premiered on April 26, 2017, and concluded on June 14, 2017, the series was then renewed for another season that premiered on April 25, 2018.

Season 3 of the series aired on June 5, 2019, and the fourth season aired on April 27, 2021. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 1 won 8 Primetime Emmy Awards and became the first show produced by Hulu to get a major award.

In December 2020, the renewal of the series for its fifth season was announced even before the premiere of the fourth season. As we know that covid-19 pandemic has hampered every sector which led to the delay of the premiere of the fourth season also.

It has been confirmed that the filming for the fifth season had begun in November last year but no particular date has been announced yet for the release. Though we may expect the fifth season to hit by summer this year if covid-19 situations remain under control.

Well before getting into the possible storyline of the fifth season let’s have a look at the events that happened in the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

In the finale episode of Season 4, we see that June, Emily, and other former Handmaids follow Fred across the forest and beat him to death, and hand him on a wall. June returns home with blood over her face and Luke appeared to be shocked seeing her in such a condition.

Since Serena was waiting for Fred to video call her online just the way they scheduled, the mail carrier sorts Serena’s envelopes and unfolds one that had Fred’s wedding ring and ring finger as well.

We expect the story will be continued in the fifth season but nothing has been shared yet by the makers of the series so let’s wait until then.
