Eligibility for Recovery Rebate Credit
If you are eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit, you are entitled to claim the child on your tax return, which will be submitted in 2022.
Those who are eligible to get an extra payment under the American Rescue Plan will be entitled to get the credit as part of their tax refund for 2021.
To be eligible, dependents have to be below the age of 19 at the end of the year except if they are a student, or of any age but are permanently disabled.
Furthermore, the dependent has to be a child, brother, sister, foster child, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother or half-sister, or a descendent of any of them.
There are certain requirements concerning the income that are required to be met to get the Recovery Rebate Credit payment, however, because taxpayers can get the entire amount if they have an adjusted gross income below $75,000, or earnings of $150,000 and are married and filing jointly.
