What is the release date for Marvel’s vampire hunter’s newest film? Since 2004’s Blade: Trinity, there hasn’t been a new Blade film. Now, the property is being resurrected inside the MCU, with the first hint being an audio-only voice cameo in last year’s Eternals.
Here’s all we know about the Blade MCU movie’s debut date, precise release time, and how to watch it.
Marvel Studios is currently working on a new Blade film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and here’s all we know thus far.
Since the beginning of the MCU in 2008, Marvel Studios has been able to offer a wide range of heroes due to the franchise’s success.
Despite years of Marvel movies preceding the Cinematic Universe, their appearances marked the big-screen debuts of many comic characters.
With a new Spider-Man and MCU reboots of the X-Men and Fantastic Four on the way, this is starting to change, but Blade, the Vampire Slayer, is another character destined for an MCU makeover.
Starting in the late 1990s, Wesley Snipes played Eric Brooks in three Blade films, proving that there was an audience for R-rated comic book content. On the other hand, Marvel Studios has never shown any interest in reviving Blade as part of the MCU.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, spoke at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con and surprised everyone by announcing that a standalone feature was in the works. This was announced alongside the news that Mahershala Ali will play Marvel’s daywalker.
Since then, Blade has been in development, with Stacy Osei-Kuffour of Watchmen writing the story and Bassam Tariq of Mogul Mowgli directing.
The blade is one of a handful of films that will be released in the coming several years as part of the MCU’s ever-expanding universe. Blade’s popularity is only expected to grow as the project progresses and Marvel tries out new genres and ratings.
When Will Blade Be Released?
The blade has yet to get an official release date from Marvel Studios. The studio has revealed its whole slate of films through 2022 and a few 2023 movies, although there are still several 2023 release dates open.
The blade is allegedly planning to begin filming in the summer of 2022. Marvel Studios films usually release a year to a year and a few months after production begins; however, that timetable expanded a little due to the pandemic.
Whether the film takes 12 or 18 months to complete when shooting begins, Blade is expected to hit theatres in 2023, joining Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel currently has three 2023 slots available for as-yet-unspecified films, so Blade is likely to be one of them.
The Cast of Blade
Only Mahershala Ali is presently part of the MCU’s Blade film cast. Ali approached Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige after his Oscar-winning appearances in Moonlight and Green Book to express his interest in taking part as Eric Brooks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
At the time, Marvel had no intentions to create Blade, but Ali’s talent and enthusiasm made it simple for Feige to alter his mind.
Ali will not be alone in the film, as Marvel will assemble another stellar cast, maybe including other MCU characters such as Midnight Sons members Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Details About the Blade Story
Blade’s plot has yet to be disclosed or even hinted at. It will most likely include some of Blade’s origin story and how he became a vampire slayer, but most of the film will most likely focus on Eric as a seasoned hunter.
This would allow the movie to explain Blade’s whereabouts throughout the MCU’s history. Blade’s exact plot will most likely be determined by which of Marvel’s many supernatural enemies he faces in his debut feature.
