The release date for Witchfire has been announced by developer The Astronauts, it’s supposed to launch in Early Access in late 2022, but nothing is set in stone.
Witchfire is a forthcoming roguelite first-person shooter that commits to a fast-paced action in a cruel fantasy world.
First disclosed at The Game Awards 2017, its developers have been silently developing their game world (and periodically making prop guns out of duct tape). And now finally we have our first official announcement about the release date of the Witchfire, even though with a boatload of caveats.
When Is the Witchfire Release Date Window?
The Witchfire release date window is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. That signifies that its developer The Astronauts expects this game to come out sometime between October 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022.
That said, its developer warns that anything can see a transformation throughout the next 9 to 12 months.
A long blog post on the developer’s website reads “[The Witchfire release date window is] as solid as game development allows,” adding further “Investors, platform holders, distributors[,] or publishers may change our plans.
Another pandemic may change our plans. Or aliens. Or we just may have underestimated the amount of work needed for the EA release. It’s not like it never happened to anybody before *cough*”
The post further reads “If you wonder why we did not keep on being coy about the release date, then, it’s for two reasons,” adding “One, we’ve had enough of the whispers claiming this game does not exist, even if they were in jest.
Two, even though we do consider the release timeframe reasonable, we wanted to give ourselves that extra motivating kick in the ass.”
The blog post states that Witchfire will first be released in Early Access. The developers say that co-op gameplay is a possibility, but many challenges are surrounding game design.
A multiplayer function surely would not come out with its initial Early Access launch, and that’s if they decide to develop one at all.
So, everything is up in the air; the exact release date, platforms, and every other precise information is official “TBD” outside of the release date window.
However, from what we have seen, things appear to look good enough so far. We hope that developers The Astronauts can stick to their plan and come up with the game by the end of the year.
