Finally, Shenmue: The Animation, which is the animated adaptation of Sega’s cult classic 1999 Dreamcast game, comes up with a release date. Earlier, back in September 2020, A Shenmue anime was confirmed, and the production was under Telecom Animation Film.
The executive producer of the anime series is the original series creator Yu Suzuki whereas the series will be directed by Chikara Sakurai.
Undoubtedly, Shenmue: The Animation is depicting the story of the video game saga (many of the original Japanese dub cast will come back), starting with the killing of teenage martial arts pupil Ryo Hazuki’s father whereas the finishing is not clear.
The games have popularly taken their enough time to recall Hazuki’s adventures (with a gap of nearly two decades between parts 2 and 3) and the third part also concluded on a mysterious note that led to raising questions of how the series might opt to end.
A trailer rolled out last October recommended that the anime series that consists of 13 episodes would at least continue to run for Shenmue 2, and since Eurogamer’s Martin Robinson outlined the time, there have been speculations since quite a while that Hazuki’s story might conclude in a mode outside of games.

The anime series is all set to release officially exclusively on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 9:30 p.m. The show will have a total of thirteen episodes and each episode would have an average runtime of nearly 30 minutes and would be available to watch in both Japanese-subbed and English-dubbed.
