Earlier Saturday, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom revealed that it had details recommending the Russian intention was in the wind.
A spokesperson for the British agency stated “We have information that indicates the Russian Government is looking to install a pro-Russian leader in Kyiv as it considers whether to invade and occupy Ukraine.”
The spokesperson further continued that the then Ukrainian Member of Parliament Yevhen Murayev was being taken into consideration as a potential candidate.
According to the report of The Associated Press, Murayev heads Nashi, a small pro-Russian political party that has no representation in Ukraine’s parliament.
According to the AP, the U.K. government stated that its assertions were based on an intelligence evaluation, but it gave no proof to back it.
Anti-tank weapons have been sent to Ukraine by Britain as a part of attempts to assist the country to defend against a possible Russian invasion.
The US Attempts to Unify With Its European Allies
A U.S. official responded to the reports about Russia and Ukraine.
Emily Horne, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council said “This kind of plotting is deeply concerning,” further added, “The Ukrainian people have the sovereign right to determine their future, and we stand with our democratically elected partners in Ukraine.”
In the past few months, the United States has put efforts to unite with its European allies against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
