Neither Netflix nor Director Hwang Dong-hyuk may have anticipated the possible success of the Squid Game series. This K-drama series was amongst the top shows of 2021 and fans will be happy to know that there is a possibility of Squid Game Season 2. Netflix is overwhelmed with the responses and has given a green light for the second season. 

Squid Game was released for worldwide streaming on September 17 and even won Golden Globes. It is amongst the top most-viewed series in history and upon asking about Season 2, Hwang said, “I almost feel like you leave us no choice.

There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”

Squid Game fans, season 2 is renewed and Netflix’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandon has assured about it. As per the reports posted by Variety, the chief content officer said, “The Squid Game universe has begun”.

Even if it is confirmed, the season is not going to be released anytime in 2022. The series is still in the pre-production stage. Thus, you can expect it to release sometime around 2023 or maybe 2024. The fans might find it to be a pretty long wait time but let us remind you, Season 1 was planned and executed for almost over a decade. So, it is justifiable.

Now we have seen a majority of the cast die during season 1. Jung Ho-yeon, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Kim Joo-ryeong, Anupam Tripathi, Heo Sung-tae, Wi Ha-joon, and even O Yeong-su were dead.

The only living cast members are the lead Lee Jung-jae and Gong Yoo. So, we are sure that a team of new cast members will stun the viewers with their performance. The makers haven’t confirmed the list yet but we know that it is going to be epic. Moreover, there are going to be a lot of flashbacks that will take you down memory lane.

There has been a new development as Hwang has shared his insight about the season 2 plot. He said to CNN that he plans to share more details about the characters who were less explored in the previous season.

Two of the most important characters who had less screen time were the Train to Busan actor, Gong Yoo playing the role of the recruiter, and also, the Front Man who is known for operating the game.  

He even explained, “There are some loose ends I’d like to explore if I were to make a second season. The Frontman’s unexplained past, detective Jun-ho’s story. Those are things I didn’t explain in Season 1. If I were to do Season 2, I’d like to explain those elements. And the man with the Ttakji in his bags…the man who was played by Gong Yoo.”

During an interview with Sunday Times, he said that the Front Man has more details to reveal. Spoiler alert, in season 1, we have seen that the Front Man was not only Jun-Jo’s brother but also an ex-cop. So, the next season may dig deeper into the storylines that remain unexplored.

Now, for the recruiter, the audiences have seen him during the beginning and absolute end of the series. However, he has left an impact on uncountable minds and viewers cannot wait to know more about the backstory.

Squid Game Season 2 Is Ready for Season 3?

The biggest K-drama of all time may not only be limited to 2 seasons. Hwang disclosed the probability of a third season of the popular Squid Game with Netflix. It will be joining the list of the longest-running Korean dramas ever. 

“I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3,” Hwang stated, “We will conclude any time soon.”
