The UNDERCOVER x HUMAN MADE Collaboration “LAST ORGY 2” Has Release Date?

Fashion Designers Jun “Junio” Takahashi and Tomoaki “Nigo” Nagao have decided to drop their latest collaborative fashion pieces on February 5th online. Japanese streetwear was hyped up in the 1990s with the two designers combining their efforts to bring a change in the fashion worn by the teenagers of Japan.

Where It All Began – The LAST ORGY

Junio and Nigo met each other at the fashion institute named Bunka Fashion College. Together they decided to revive the ‘LAST ORGY’ column that was first written by the dynamic hip-hop duo Hiroshi Fujiwara and Kan Tagaki.

This column appeared in the Takarajima Magazine for pop-culture-loving teens in 1987, where Kan Tagaki and Hiroshi Fujiwara discussed their favorite music bands, food, film, and fashion. The name of the column was derived from a song released by Fujiwara and Tagaki as part of the Tinnie Punx hip-hop band.

This street-style string of articles became so celebrated that, at the height of its popularity, a spin-off TV series was introduced with the same name on FM-TV Japan.

LAST ORGY 2.0 – A Homage To Its Predecessor

The LAST ORGY 2.0 was revamped by the fashionable duo, Junio and Nigo, at the beginning of their fashion careers.

Their efforts lead the ‘LAST ORGY 2.0’ to be so successful that when they dropped the collaborative fashion pieces named after the column, it was an instant hit. The clothes were featured in their fashion store ‘Nowhere’ in Harajuku. By this time in 1993,  the duo had already launched their fashion labels BAPE and UNDERCOVER.

BAPE And UNDERCOVER

BAPE, now owned by the Hong Kong fashion conglomerate, the IT group, was the brainchild of fashion designer Nigo. He brought this brand concept for teenagers and it got so hyped up that it established a cult-like fan following.

After 20 years of building the BAPE brand, Nigo had to sell it due to some financial complications. Luckily, Nigo had started another brand ‘Human Made’ at the right time to create fashion that he felt was too different to be brought out into the market under BAPE’s name.

In ‘Nowhere’, the joint fashion store of Junio and Nigo, Junio was also making waves with his trendy clothes under the brand label of ‘UNDERCOVER’.

Junio Takahashi was inspired by the global punk movement, and as a young reclusive designer in the 1990s, he worked hard to make his clothes have the playfully dark flavor of punk. Youngsters craved his uber-trendy fashion that represented an escape for them and gave them an excitable way to express themselves.

Verdy’s Girls Don’t Cry – The Fashion Brand

Japanese graphic designer Verdy brought together a fusion of band culture and everyday life. When he started in the field of graphic design, he thought it was important to be influenced by a particular theme, in his case, the world of music bands.

However, when he traveled across the globe, particularly when visiting the US, he met with different designers who focused more on the work they loved doing and did not follow what was popular at the time.

This change in mindset brought Verdy to give birth to the fashion brand, Girls Don’t Cry. He doesn’t sell the pieces online, as he believes that fashion is like art or music. It needs to be celebrated.

This, he travels to different destinations to drop his clothes at different shops. And people go wild over his design, with as many as 2000 people waiting for a chance to get a piece for themselves outside a store.

The Formidable Mash-Up

Paired with fashion giants like Junio and Nigo, Verdy is excited to launch this latest collection of LAST ORGY 2.1. The columns were revived for the third time in 2021 and so it makes sense that the popular streetwear fashion pieces should follow in turn.
