Disney’s “Snow White” Latest Updates: Release Date, Storyline And Many More

Disney’s Snow White is moved to the big screen for a live-action remake. Adapted from the 1938 cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the epic fairytale is all prepared for its theatrical release in a modern and more contemporary retelling since Disney goes on to modify its Princess characters.

Discussions about the movies’ storyline have arisen that led Disney to open up about the steps taken by it to avoid bolstering stereotypes in the forthcoming film. There was also controversy about Disney’s announcement that the movie’s main character would be of Latinx heritage.

Here’s everything we know so far regarding Snow White

What Is the Release Date of Snow White?

There is no official announcement made by Disney about the release date of the upcoming movie but if we believe IMDb reports, Snow White will be released in theaters early next year. As of now, the film is in pre-production.

What Are the Opinions of Casts on Their Respective Roles?

Rachel Zegler brought himself under social media scrutiny following she was cast as Snow White back in June 2021 officially. In an interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors series with Andrew Garfield, the star spoke up regarding that controversy.

She said “Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me,” adding further “You don’t normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent. Even though Snow White is a big deal in Spanish-speaking countries.

Blanca Nieves is a huge icon whether you’re talking about the Disney cartoon or just different iterations and the Grimm fairy tale and all the stories that come with it. But you don’t particularly see people who look like me or are me playing roles like that.”

Pointing to concerns from social media users who were not happy at all that a Latinx actress would be portraying the lead character in the epic film, Rachel stated, “When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days because all of the people were angry.”

Rachel said “We need to love them in the right direction,” adding further “At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I’m excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess.”

Who Is Joining the Cast of Snow White?

After a huge success in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, Rachel Zegler has been onboarded to play the lead character of Snow White.

In a statement to Deadline, director Marc Webb talked about Rachel’s addition to the lead role in the movie. He said “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,” adding further “Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot will also be seen in the forthcoming remake in the role of the Evil Queen.

In a statement to Variety, she confirmed her character. She said “I’m so excited,” adding further “There is so much that I cannot share with you that will answer this question,” continued “But the take on this story is so different and delightful and full of joy… I’m very, very excited. I wish I could share more.”

What Is the Controversy Surrounding Snow White About?

Emmy award-winning actor Peter Dinklage censured the forthcoming film for telling a “backward story.”

He spoke about his concerns regarding the use of dwarfs in the film in an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast where he mentioned that “Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they [Disney] were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Peter, who was born with a type of dwarfism termed achondroplasia, said, “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.

You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f*****g backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

While responding, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter Disney stated “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.
