Did V.P. Kamala Harris Support the Child Tax Credit?
In February. 8th, 2022, VP Kamala Harris tweeted in support of the extension of the child tax credit. Her tweet said, “Millions have used their monthly Child Tax Credit check to pay down debt, to cover expenses, and put food on the table. For today’s Day of Action, I want to encourage Americans to sign up for the Expanded Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit.”
In another tweet, she addressed, “Our message is simple: If you are eligible for the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit, we want you to get those credits.”
There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding new child tax supports. The monthly payments were $300 maximum and it continued from July to December 2021. However, after that, Congress failed to come upon any decision of expansion.
The program expired in the month of December and President Biden also couldn’t introduce the Build Black Better Plan in spite of having a majority in the upper house. So, the lawmakers of Georgia, namely Sen. Reverend Raphael Warnock wishes that the monthly direct payments continue until the Americans are fully recovered from the effect of the pandemic.
Since the consumer prices increased by 7.5 percent in the course of the last twelve months. Thus, the citizens are struggling to meet the daily expenses. Besides, the expenses of child care are high and so, it can be said that expenditure is surpassing the expenses.
No new updates are there regarding child tax credit but the VP is also trying hard to continue the programs.
On the other hand, The Child and Dependent Care Credit (CDCC) is considered to be quadrupled. So, the taxpayers can now write off a part of up to $8,000 for one child or for that of a dependent, $16,000 for two or more. Taxpayers are eligible to claim a maximum of 50 percent.
Will Social Security Payments Continue?
Social Security payments are applicable for those citizens who have retired or are planning to retire. If the applicants are of the age of 62 or above, then you will get an amount. The amount is calculated on your highest earning of the 35 years and after retirement, the applicant will get a higher amount.
This federal program is not going anywhere and SSI payments are paid by the US Treasury Department. The news confirms the continuation of this program and only eligible candidates will get the pay-out. So, there aren’t any issues with this program at all.
But economists are a bit concerned about the future. Since the labor market is gradually shrinking as many are choosing to retire at an early age, there are a lot of Baby Boomers. A permanent solution is needed for offering benefits to this section.
When Will They Get the Tax Refund?
The tax season is currently going on and eligible applicants are calculating how to maximize the return. You already know that the tax season will end on April 18th, 2022 and if there is any extension, then the citizens will be updated.
The final date may also extend if there is any need for so. As there isn’t any new information yet, you have to consider the deadline of April 18th.
But the main question is, when will the citizens get the return that they deserve? The payments will start as soon as you file the taxes after receiving all the documents. It is recommended to file taxes electronically.
Then you will receive the payment within 21 days or more. As the agency is currently under pressure, it is safe to say to have some more time in your hand. But make sure that all the filings are done correctly.
In case, there is anything that is filed wrongly, then you have to file it again. Possible delays may also happen if you do not file it on time. So, calculate the numbers accordingly.
