With the release of the OnePlus 10 Pro in the United States, OnePlus has been extremely slow.
The Oneplus 10 Pro Will Be Available in the United States/North America in March
OnePlus revealed the OnePlus 10 Pro at CES 2022 with an initial release in China. Yesterday, on the first day of MWC 2022, OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 10 Pro will be available in the United States/North America by the end of March. This also applies to Europe and India.
In March, when? What is the date? When will pre-booking be available? When will the OnePlus 10 Pro phones be available? What will be the cost of the phone? Will the OnePlus 10 be available in a non-Pro version? Will the OnePlus 10 feature a mid-range variant similar to the OnePlus 9 series’ OnePlus 9R? There is no one at OnePlus who can say for sure what will happen.
“We don’t have a specific date to share at this time, but it will be available in North America in the second half of March,” a OnePlus representative stated. OnePlus is making everyone wait — a hint of skepticism.
The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra from Samsung are already available. They all were announced alongside the OnePlus 10 Pro and came in hands of people before OnePlus even exported a single unit.
I’ve written about every OnePlus launch, and it is very unusual for a well-known company to make such a chaos of a phone launch. Pete Lau, The Chief Product Officer of OPPO, who hosts these virtual conversations multiple times a year, stated during a panel discussion with the news last Friday that launching the OnePlus 10 Pro in China first demonstrates the company’s commitment to that market.
OnePlus’s sibling brand that is OPPO, with which it is now more closely associated than ever as of last year, is a huge company in China as compared to OnePlus. OnePlus definitely desires a stronger presence there.
It’s perfectly acceptable to launch a phone in China and then expand globally, but why be so unclear about details like the release date? Why haven’t we received pricing for the United States? The slow drip-feed of the OnePlus 10 Pro’s design, specifications, and then the full camera and hardware details was infuriating.
During the discussion, Pete told the reporters that since integrating more closely with Oppo, it has not downplayed its marketing/PR efforts in North America. But it appears that it has. The OnePlus 10 Pro’s launch outside of China feels… strange.
