Amazon Prime Video Is Developing a God of War Tv Series

Only a God of War live-action series will join Amazon Prime Video’s growing list of video game TV shows.

PlayStation is reportedly in talks with Prime Video to adapt God of War into a live-action TV series, according to Deadline. Executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby of The Expanse, as well as Rafe Judkins of The Wheel of Time, are all interested in working on the adaptation.

After God of War is confirmed as a live-action TV show, it will join the likes of The Last of Us and Twisted Metal as PlayStation exclusives. However, this doesn’t include games like Uncharted and the impending Ghost of Tsushima film.

In contrast, HBO has picked up The Last of Us, while Peacock has Twisted Metal.

But Amazon isn’t just going to be adapting video games like God of War. Walton Goggins will feature in an upcoming Amazon Studios TV series based on the Fallout universe, which will be produced by the team behind Westworld, while a new series based on the Mass Effect franchise will air on Prime Video.

God of War is a long-running PlayStation exclusive, but Sony Santa Monica Studios’ most recent rendition of the franchise is likely to help the series capitalize on its popularity. Kratos, a former Spartan who goes to war against the Greek gods, is the star of the show.

To begin a new chapter in his life after the events of the previous trilogy, Kratos travels to Scandanavia to find himself confronted with an entirely different cast of Norse gods and their attendant problems.

As one of the most successful reboots in recent memory, God of War was critically hailed when it was released. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of God of War: Ragnarok will be released later this year. Both the Norse Saga and the story of Kratos and his son Atreus will be explored in the sequel.

A new series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, titled “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” is in the works at Amazon, which is betting big on genre adaptations.
