American Gods Season 4 has been anticipated for release by the fans. But sadly, things might not go as planned. After three seasons, it was declared that the show was canceled. The decision was announced in March after the three seasons.
The latest season for the series aired in January and the ending of the show did make the fans think that there will be American Gods Season 4. But the creators had something else in mind and this is the hard reality.
What Led to the Cancellation of American Gods Season 4?
The TV show was based on Neil Gaiman’s famous book. This bold fantasy vision had all the elements that could make the series a success. In fact, there are many dedicated fans of the show. But there was a lot of drama that took place behind the screens.
It was reported that Bryan Fuller as well as Michael Green were suddenly fired even when they were planning for the second season. It was because they had some sort of disagreement with the production company, Fremantle.
It was related to the budget of the show. So, the company replaced the genius duo with Jesse Alexander. But things didn’t sit right and the show got rough. Besides, season 2 was also on hold for a few days in order to settle the budget issues with Fremantle as well as Starz. There were a couple of last-minute changes.
Obviously, the second season landed up getting unpleasant reviews and the controversies continued throughout seasons two and three. Even many of the cast were killed off when the story took a drastic turn to the Shadow Moon’s Lakeside life. Charles H Eglee then became the fourth showrunner and he did help to bring back life to the show. But as the views were already down, Starz finally decided on canceling the show.
Will American Gods Renew After Cancellation?
Well, many fans are still hoping for a comeback and writer Neil Gaiman even hinted about something on Twitter, “It’s definitely not dead,” “I’m grateful to the team at Starz for the American Gods’ journey so far. Fremantle (who makes AG) is committed to finishing the story that began in episode one, and right now we’re all just waiting to see which way forward is best, and who it’ll be with.”
Besides, one of the representatives of Fremantle said to Deadline: “Fremantle is committed to completing the epic journey that is American Gods, one of TV’s most inclusive series with the most amazing fans across the globe. With Neil Gaiman and this fantastic cast and crew, we are exploring all options to continue to tell this magnificent story.”
So, if the production company finds any solution, then it can have a comeback.
American Gods Season 4 Expected Plot
It may show the ultimate conclusion through the Shadow’s death on Yggdrasil. But if you check the novel Gaiman, the sacrifice isn’t the end of it. So, we can see there is a war that will take place between the Old as well as New Gods.
Shadow may resurrect and it might lead to the most dangerous storm ever. Mr. Wednesday’s body will also be discovered which is going to lead to one of the worst chapters ever. As a matter of fact, there will be many different mysteries that are yet to be answered. So, if season 4 comes, then the fans will finally get a conclusion to it.
