Sherlock Holmes 3 Has Chances To Be Out Or Not? Know Here!

In December 2021, Sherlock Holmes 3 was initially intended to be released.

While it’s not surprising that the current global situation has hindered the development of the three sequels, every other film and television show has been disrupted for the previous two years or so, Sherlock Holmes 3 has not returned to the release schedule.

“We started walking and then Covid hit, and they were like, ‘Look, we’re going to catch him, and Robert has something else he wants to do’,” In June 2021, Dexter Fletcher clarified. “These things are so big you don’t want to just sculpt them into something . . . I knew Robert wouldn’t let the fish get away.”

Guy Ritchie stepped down as director of Sherlock Holmes 3 to make way for David Fletcher in July of this year, and the most recent update seems hopeful in that Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will return as Holmes and Watson. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Fletcher worked with Ritchie as an actor on the film, and he has stated that Ritchie was “extremely gracious” in his promotion of the film franchise (via DenOfGeek).

“We’re different filmmakers and I’m not going to overlook what he did so brilliantly before. I mean there’s going to be elements of that, but I’m also going to be bringing my own voice into it and it’s going to be kind of different,” stated Fletcher.

“He’s like, ‘You’re going to have a great time. Go and have a great time.’ It’ll be exciting. Rob is fantastic, Jude is amazing. There’s an incredible cast there and a great opportunity. [Ritchie]’s not around to do it, and he’s off doing what he’s doing. It feels good to be part of that. Guy and I go way back, and he’s very generous. I think he finds it rather funny that it’s me.”

Sherlock Holmes 3 is still a way out, so we can only speculate about how much fun it will be. In the meantime, here is everything we know so far about Sherlock Holmes 3.

Sherlock Holmes 3: A Timeline for Future Events

Originally scheduled for release on December 25, 2020, the third picture has been pushed back one year to December 22, 2021, by Warner Bros.

Currently, there is no definite release date for Sherlock Holmes 3. It was revealed in October 2020 that Fletcher and his team had put the picture on hold as they awaited “what would happen” in the world.

“How do you get a large group of people together to create something and then move them around the world? And what do you do with actors who are in love scenes? It’s complicated,” he stated.

Obviously, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in the upcoming third picture.

Despite the lack of confirmation, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kelly Reilly (Mary Watson), Stephen Fry (Sherlock Mycroft’s brother), or Eddie Marsan (Inspector Lestrade) made an appearance.

Professor James Moriarty, who was superbly portrayed by Jared Harris in A Game of Shadows, may not be returning.

Sherlock Holmes 3 Plot

In the third film, Downey said, “We wanted this to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty high order,”. The question is, who from Sherlock’s long list of suspects will he have to deal with this time?

In the first film, Holmes and Watson face off against Lord Henry Blackwood (Mark Strong), a potential ruler of the mystical realm, while in the second, we meet Professor James Moriarty, Sherlock’s archnemesis (Jared Harris).

There is little hope for Harris’s comeback, as previously stated. Detectives, however, faked Holmes’ death and covertly showed up in Watson’s office in the same scenario. In the event that Harris returns to the part of Moriarty, our money will be used to repurchase the film. Like Batman without the Joker, Holmes and Moriarty need each other in order to be truly exceptional.

Moriarty was not in the last script Harris saw, he told Digital Spy in March 2018, and he doesn’t sound optimistic about returning. The question is whether or not that’ll be different when it’s time to shoot. Considering how much time has gone since the events of A Game of Shadows, we can safely assume that it takes place sometime after.

 “We hope to push the story forward. As always, the essence of stories is their codependency,” disparaged Law. “We’re going to check – because it’s been a few years since we’ve seen them – we’re going to play up the fact that they haven’t seen each other in a long time too.”

For its characters, it appears to be setting up an entire world, which might lead to spin-offs and streaming series.

“We thought there was an opportunity to build on it further, to play some of the characters from the third film, to see what’s going on in the television landscape, to see how Warner Media is starting to build something with HBO and HBO Max,” Susan Downey conveyed (via SlashFilm).

“We definitely have some kind of grand scheme and plan and all that stuff, but it takes a lot. It takes a lot of coordination because again, Marvel wasn’t built in a day. It took a few wins and things worked really well to get them together.”

“At this point, we really feel like there’s no mystery verse built anywhere,” added Downey Jr. “Conan Doyle is the definitive voice in that arena to this day, so to me, why make a third film if you can’t be a real gem of diversity and time and other elements? We’re not repeaters, we don’t want to just try to do what has been done elsewhere. But I think the model itself has become much more dimensional than before.”

We’ll have to wait till filming begins to see whether there’s any new footage, but it’s safe to say we shouldn’t hold our breath for anything to happen anytime soon.
