Sonic Origins Collection Announced to Release in June

Original Sonic Origins adventures will be re-released this summer.

2D side-scrolling platformers, like the original Sonic games, have players whizzing through levels at breakneck speeds. Sonic the Hedgehog initially appeared in the Green Hill Zone and the Chemical Plant in these games.

When will Collection be Released?

To commemorate Sonic’s birthday, on June 23, 2022, Sonic Origins, a collection of retro remasters, will be released. Several 2D Sonic games for Genesis are collected in Sonic Origins, including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Remastered versions of all these titles will be available for current platforms.

Sega has also confirmed that the Sonic collection will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC for $39.99. Tomorrow, pre-orders will be available for purchase.

In addition to the pre-order bonuses of 100 Medallions, Mirror Mode Unlocked, and Letter Box visuals, the $44.99 Digital Deluxe Edition includes Difficult Missions, Letter Box, Characters in the Main Menu, Island Camera in the Main Menu, Character Animation in the Music Playback, and Exclusive Sonic Mega Drive Tracks.

Sonic Origins Plotline

You can play the original version of the game in the Classic mode, but it will have a limited lifespan just like the 16-bit version had. A new widescreen resolution and endless lives will be available in the game’s Anniversary mode.

Players will be able to gather money by completing objectives in Origins. It is possible to use these to unlock more content, challenges, and Special Stages in the Museum mode. The fact that a PS4 disc may be used to upgrade to the PS5 version suggests a physical release as well, according to the entry on the PlayStation app.

As a compilation, Sonic Origins features the following games:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic CD
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3
  • Sonic & Knuckles

Must Check

In May 2021, Sega’s Sonic Central presentation announced the compilation, but additional information remained scarce until last week when the game was given a rating in South Korea. Last year, Sonic Team president Takashi Iizuka stated to the Japanese website 4Gamer that the games in Sonic Origins would not be running on an emulator, but rather on new ports.

Using this method, the games might be displayed in widescreen (16:9) and modified in the same way as Christian Whitehead‘s critically acclaimed mobile versions have been (who would go on to work on Sonic Mania).
