Creed III: Release Date Status, Cast, And Plot (UPDATED)

Creed III is coming. It’s easy to forget that Rocky fans were pleasantly surprised by the most recent spin-off: Creed. The 2015 film starring Michael B Jordan as the titular young boxer received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.

It’s not surprising that Creed got a sequel, Creed II, given its six-film birth franchise. Surprisingly, it was set up as the end of Rocky’s story, with Adonis Creed taking over the mantle.

Now Sylvester Stallone has confirmed he will not reprise his role in the third Creed film, titled Creed III. Here’s what we know so far.

Creed III Plot

Creed III could end up feeling a lot like Creed II if Lang’s son is the main villain in the movie. With the right team behind it, however, it has the potential to seem new.

After Creed II, Adonis and Bianca migrated to Los Angeles, California, with their young daughter Amara. We’d expect to see a shift in the landscape. There are currently no confirmed storyline specifics beyond this supposition, so keep a lookout for announcements here.

Creed III Director

Another significant change in the filmmaking team for Creed III will be: Creed I and Creed II were directed by Ryan Coogler and Steven Caple Jr., respectively, while the third installment will be helmed by none other than Michael B. Jordan in his directorial debut.

While it had been speculated for some time that Jordan would helm Creed III, he made it official in March. A statement from the actor reads, “Directing has always been my goal, but the moment has to be perfect.”

This is a point in my life when I am more confident in my own identity, have more control over my own tale, and have learned from the greats like Ryan Coogler, Denzel Washington, and other top-tier directors I like. “Creed III is that moment.”

Creed III’s themes, in particular, hold a special place in his heart, he continued. It is an honor and a privilege to direct and be named after Adonis Creed, and I look forward to sharing the next chapter of his narrative with you.

Creed III Cast

As previously reported, Sylvester Stallone will not reprise his role as Rocky in the third installment of the Creed franchise. Instead, he’s working on a new Rocky film and a prequel series to the franchise.

On top of returning as Adonis Creed, Michael B Jordan is also taking on an important role as director. He stated: “The timing has to be just right for me to pursue my dream of becoming a director.

“Creed III represents a point in my life when I’ve become more confident in who I am, have more control over my own narrative, and have learned from the greats like Ryan Coogler, Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I admire, such as Christopher Nolan.

“All of this sets the stage for this moment. I’m a huge fan of the Creed series and in particular Creed III’s themes. I’m excited to direct and bear the moniker of Adonis Creed for the next chapter in his life’s journey.” (Via Deadline.)

Adonis’ girlfriend Bianca, played by Tessa Thompson in Marvel’s Thor, is set to return.
