The Hunger Games Prequel Official Release Date Status! (UPDATED 2022)

A release date for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the long-awaited prequel to The Hunger Games, was announced by Lionsgate at CinemaCon.

This is the same pre-Thanksgiving stretch where Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two all debuted.

Suzanne Collins’ dystopian action/adventure novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set in this dystopian future. Prequel and spin-off of The Hunger Games series. Scholastic published it on May 19, 2020.

American actor Santino Fontana recorded an audiobook of the novel, which was released simultaneously with its print version. The COVID-19 epidemic led to a virtual debut for the book. In 2023, a film adaptation by Lionsgate is scheduled to be released.

What About the Release Date of The Hunger Games Prequel?

A writers’ room for The Hunger Games spinoffs was announced by Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer in August of last year.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Joe Drake said in June 2019 that the studio is working with Collins on an adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

TIME stated that Collins shines most “as she weaves in tantalizing details that lend depth to the gruesome world she created in the original series.” “both a tense, character-driven piece and a cautionary tale,”  wrote Kirkus Reviews of the novel.
