For reasons that remain unclear, a few months later the nuns who had been living in the home for decades arranged a second contract to sell the house for a somewhat larger amount than the amount that would have been paid to their order directly. A lengthy judicial struggle ensued as a result of this.
In court, one of the nuns died. In the end, Dana was fined $6.5 million for interfering with the sale. It’s been reported that the Archdiocese is still open to closing with Katy if she can find an appropriate substitute property for the nuns after her option to buy the house expired in August 2019.
