More About BTS
South Korean boy band BTS, formerly known as the Bangtan Boys, was founded in 2010 and had their public debut in 2013 as a Big Hit Entertainment act. Many of the group’s songs are co-written and co-produced by members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
They started as a hip-hop group, but their sound has broadened to encompass a variety of styles. Many of their songs deal with issues of mental health as well as those of adolescence and adolescence transitions, as well as the road toward self-love and individualism. In addition, they frequently use literary and psychological allusions in their work, as well as incorporate elements of a parallel reality.
It was in 2014 that BTS launched their first studio albums in Korean and Japanese after making their 2013 debut with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. For the first time in South Korean history, Wings (2016) sold one million copies. As of 2017, BTS has established itself as a global music force, bringing the Korean Wave to the United States and shattering countless sales records along the way.
Their single “Mic Drop” and their album “Love Yourself: Tear” became the first Korean acts to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the first Korean acts to top the US Billboard 200. (2018). Love Yourself: Answer (2018) was the first Korean album to be certified platinum by the RIAA, making BTS one of the few groups since the Beatles to have four US number one albums in less than two years.
“Dynamite,” the band’s Grammy-nominated track, helped BTS earn their first Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 No. 1 in 2020. BTS became the first group since Michael Jackson to have five US number one songs with “Savage Love,” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.”
