Before her April 11 defamation lawsuit trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp, actress Amber Heard declared that she will take a hiatus from social media for many weeks. Read Amber Heard Latest Update statement below.
It was announced on Saturday night that ‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Momoa was taking a social media break in a lengthy Instagram post. “I’m going to go offline for the next several weeks. As you may know, I’ll be in Virginia where I face my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court,” Heard noted.
“Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in the Washington Post, in which I recounted my experience of violence and domestic abuse. I never named him, rather I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power,” according to her statement.
According to the actress, she has “always maintained a love for Johnny” and that “brings me great pain” of our old existence together in public caused me immense agony. “always maintained a love for Johnny” and “living out the specifics of our former life together in the public eye “brings me great pain.”Heard, 35, wrote in her statement.
“At this time, I recognize the ongoing support I’ve been fortunate to receive throughout these years, and in these coming weeks I will be leaning on it more than ever,” she concluded the message. Coupled in February 2015, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ star and ‘Aquaman‘ actor broke the news of their divorce in May 2016.
When Heard filed for divorce later that month, she provided photographic evidence of the alleged assault she endured from Depp and filed a restraining order against him for domestic violence.
“I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” Heard wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post in 2018. It’s time for a shift.” Depp was not addressed by name in Heard’s article, despite the fact that she had a long history of abuse.
Three years after his divorce, Depp stated in court records that he had never been aggressive with his ex-wife. She was also accused of domestic violence by him afterward. Depp launched a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in March 2019, claiming that despite the article not mentioning him by name, it was evident that Heard was addressing him. His cinematic career and reputation as a public personality were also affected by Heard’s essay, according to him.
As part of a counter-libel action, Heard is suing Depp for USD 100 million.“her ex-husband retaliated, deploying social media bots against her and directing an effort to tarnish her career — interfering with endorsements and acting gigs — because of the statement she made in the op-ed,” Heard claimed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Her career was tarnished.”
Depp’s attorney Adam Waldman issued a statement calling Heard’s statement “false” and a “sexual violence farce,” which prompted Heard to file defamation counterclaims against Waldman.
The case was supposed to be heard before Depp’s libel trial in the UK against British tabloid The Sun for their portrayal of the actor as a “wife-beater,” but there have been multiple delays, according to reports. Before Depp filed an appeal in December 2020 in the Sun libel case, a November 2020 judgement found that Heard’s accusations of being assaulted were “basically true.”
Apparently, two British Court of Appeal judges said in March 2021 that actor couldn’t contest High Court rejection of his libel claim against the newspaper. The Hollywood Reporter reported this.
Depp’s contract with Warner Bros. was terminated after the court’s November verdict. When he spoke at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 2021, Johnny Depp declared he was being boycotted by Hollywood and that cancel culture had gotten “so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe.”
A Virginia court rejected Heard’s attempt to dismiss Johnny Depp’s defamation suit against her in the United States following the UK court’s decision. ‘Depp also tried to get immunity over statements made regarding Heard,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter, but the judge said that he’d still have to face counterclaims’
In 2015, Heard and Depp became husband and wife. Divorce papers were filed in May 2016 by ‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Momoa, citing “irreconcilable disagreements.” Finalized in 2017, the divorce was finalized. (ANI)
