Then NBC relaunched him again with ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ that started in February 1982 and the first guest was none other than Bill Murray.  It has become one of the successful shows but in 1992, NBC replaced him with Jay Leno.

Letterman didn’t give up and continued his show on CBS sharing the time slot with Jay Leno’s show to prove who is better. Letterman signed a three-year contract for $14 million per year and it was double what NBC was paying.

The duel between Leno and Letterman got them all the ratings and David’s show received as many as 67 Emmy Award Nominations out of which he won 12 awards just in the first 20-years of the show. The icon retired in April 2014 after hosting 6,080 episodes.

After a short break, Letter started another program on Netflix named “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” in 2018 and had Barack Obama as the first-ever guest.
