James Cameron Early Life
Born in picturesque Ontario, Canada on 16th August 1954, Cameron is the oldest son amongst five siblings. His entire family came to Brea, California when he was 17.
After enrolling at Fullerton College, in 1973, he gave up on his studies and did jobs such as janitor and truck driver. He loved writing and when he saw the “Star Wars” movie in 1977, he left everything to start his career in the film industry.

James Cameron’s Career
In 1978, Cameron wrote, directed, and even produced “Xenogenesis” his first-ever short film along with one of his friends. Though he didn’t get immediate success, he was then a production assistant for the classic, “Rock and Roll High School” in 1979.
Soon he was promoted to art director for “Battle Beyond the Stars”, a science-fiction film in the 1980s. His vision of using the special effects was evident from his works on “John Carpenter’s Escape from New York” in 1981. Next, for “Galaxy of Terror” which was released again in 1981, he was a production designer.

But his breakthrough moment was Cameron’s big directorial debut, “The Terminator ” in 1984. He sold the rights to Gale Anne Hurd for only $1 and Gale agreed on giving full creative control to Cameron. He made the film for $7 million and it earned a total of $78 million. The film is such a masterpiece that it was considered for preservation by the United States National Film Registry.
Then Cameron made “Aliens’ ‘ in 1986 which got seven Academy Awards nominations and even won one. Later came “The Abyss” in 1989 which again won an Academy Award and four nominations. In 1991, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” was released and got four Academy Awards.
Already successful, Cameron made the ultimate impact in the industry with his film “Titanic” in 1997. It got 14 nominations and was another film selected by the United States National Film Registry for preservation. His 3D sensation film, “Avatar” was a terrific film that got nine Oscar nominations and won three. Cameron is the best director in the industry. He was even on the 2010s 100 most influential people list of the Time Magazine.
To date, he is the co-founder of three reputed production houses namely Lightstorm Entertainment, Earthship Productions, and Digital Domain.
James Cameron’s Personal Life
James has married five times to date. In 1978, he was married to his first wife Sharon Williams and divorced her in 1984. Just a year after the divorce, he exchanged vows with Gale Anne Hurd but then separated in 1989.
After that in 1989, he married Kathryn Bigelow but ended their marital status in 1991. Next, he married actress Linda Hamilton and Cameron’s first daughter, Josephine Archer Cameron was born in 1993. They married in 1997 but after 18 short months, they were done with the relationship.
The couple had a rough ending and Cameron had to pay $50 million settlement fees as he was caught cheating with Suzy. His fifth wife was Amis only and they had two beautiful daughters and a son. He is still married to her.
