Modern Warfare 4 will be the next Call of Duty game, and that has been known for a time now. Now that we have a release date for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we know exactly when the game will be out this fall.
The release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was confirmed by Infinity Ward on Twitter. On October 28, 2022, the game will be released worldwide. To avoid confusion, it should be noted that this is not a remake or a retelling of the 2009 release Modern Warfare 2. In 2019, Modern Warfare, a reimagining of the original tale and characters, was released, and this is a direct sequel to that release 2019.
A release date for Modern Warfare 2 was announced, as was the game’s artwork. Simon “Ghost” Riley, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, is depicted in his skull mask in the official artwork. We also see a logo that uses the MW acronym to generate the Roman numeral for two.

Platforms For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
What systems will Modern Warfare 2 be available on? Activision has yet to respond to this important topic. The publisher has supported outdated technology for a long period before restricting Call of Duty to new-generation consoles in the past. For example, before to Infinite Warfare’s 2016 release, PS3 and Xbox 360 owners could play 2013’s Ghosts, 2014’s Advanced Warfare, and 2015’s Black Ops 3 on their new consoles.
Modern Warfare 2 may or may not be exclusive to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, depending on the scale and cost of modern video game manufacturing. An early leak(opens in a new tab) of pre-order bundles for Modern Warfare 2 shows, however, that the game’s cross-gen version will be included. We can safely presume that MW2 will be available on PS4 and Xbox One, along with PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Pre-orders
Files obtained in Vanguard appear to show that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Editions have leaked (opens in new tab). So, even though pre-orders for Modern Warfare 2 have not yet gone live, we do have some idea of what to expect. A ‘Standard Edition,’ which includes a Season 1 Battle Pass and 50 Tier Skips, and a ‘Vault Edition,’ which includes Season 1 Battle Pass, 50 Tier Skips, and 10 hours of 2XP tokens, are the most prominent varieties, according to the latest reports. We’ll have additional information about the pre-order editions of MW2 in the next several weeks.
Images of the core cast of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have also been revealed. “Soap” MacTavish, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, and Colonel Alejandro Vargas make up this group. Those familiar with past Call of Duty games may remember some of these characters, but it’s safe to assume that they’ll be given new life in the next sequel.
Considering that Modern Warfare 2 is planned to arrive in October, we may expect to see a steady stream of new information as we approach closer to the date. Though speculation has swirled, no official word has been given on whether or not a sequel to Warzone will be published alongside the next Call of Duty game later this year. Stick around Shacknews while we wait for possible updates.
