21 killed in Texas Elementary School Shooting (Updated Just a Minute Ago)

Salvador Ramos, the adolescent madman who killed 19 children and two teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, boasted about his sick plans on social media.

As Gov. Greg Abbott put it, the “demented person” who brought “evil” to Uvalde began writing on Facebook “approximately 30 minutes before reaching the school,” Ramos, who turned 18 just a few weeks ago.

“The first post .. said, ‘I’m going to shoot my grandmother.’ The second post was, ‘I shot my grandmother,’” The 66-year-old Cecilia Ramos, a relative of Ramos, was medevaced to a San Antonio hospital and is in severe condition, according to Abbott.

Before arriving at the school, “I’m going to shoot an elementary school,” Abbott claimed in his third message.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, afterward insisted that “messages Gov. Abbott described were private one-to-one text messages that were discovered after the terrible tragedy occurred.”

“We are closely cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation,” spokesman Andy Stone tweeted. To whom the messages were addressed was not specified by the corporation at the time.

Even though the grandmother was shot, she “was able to run across the street to a neighbor and get help,” Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw also said at the press conference.

However, her deranged grandson had already seized her car and driven nearly three miles to Robb Elementary School, where he crashed and escaped, the officials claimed.

“He had a backpack with one rifle with him,” McCraw added, revealing that the weapon was a Daniel Defense, one of two that Ramos had purchased the previous week in a local sporting goods store along with 335 bullets.

Exactly one week before he was killed in one of the nation’s bloodiest school shootings, the young man had bought his first gun on a Tuesday last week, the day after turning 18 years old.

McCraw said Ramos, a high school dropout with no prior criminal record, entered the school through a back door on the west side of the building after smashing his grandmother’s car.

There, a “brave” school resource officer “approached” him and “engaged” him, but “gunfire was not exchanged,” McCraw said, without explaining why.

A school official reported that after making it into the building, Ramos ran down a hallway and into two adjoining classrooms.

“And that’s where the carnage began,” McCraw said.

The officers then “engaged” him and were able to “pin him down” in that spot, he said, with help from a Border Patrol SWAT team. One of the border agents is the one who gunned down Ramos, officials said.

“They breached the classroom door, they went in, engaged Ramos, and killed them at the scene,” he said.

While discussing the apparent shortcomings of the officers he otherwise praised as heroes, the official looked to be moved to tears.

“Obviously, this is situation we failed in the sense that we didn’t prevent this mass attack,” he conceded.

“But I can tell you those officers that arrived on the scene and put their lives in danger — they saved other kids. They kept him pinned down,” he asserted, saying they were “very proud” of that.

The governor agreed, saying the carnage “could have been worse” if the officers hadn’t intervened.

“The reason it was not worse is because law enforcement officials did what they do. They showed amazing courage by running toward gunfire for the singular purpose of trying to save lives,” the governor said.
