We haven’t seen a new version of the AirPods Pro since they were released in October 2021, but that could change in 2022. AirPods Pro 2, the successor to the AirPods Pro, could have a redesigned shell and improved sound quality.
The AirPods Pro 2 has been thoroughly described in this tutorial.
Design Changes
A shorter stem is already included in the basic AirPods, but a second-generation AirPods model may not include one.
According to Bloomberg, Apple intends to eliminate the small stem at the bottom of the AirPods Pro 2 in order to make them more compact. Apple is developing a more rounded design, which would indicate the AirPods 2 would look more similar to something like the Google Pixel Buds or the Samsung Galaxy Buds, all of which are stemless.

AirPods Pro 2 Lossless Support
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the second-generation AirPods Pro will contain support for Apple Lossless audio (ALAC), which would be a big enhancement.
Current AirPods and AirPods Pro versions do not support Lossless because AirPods play audio over Bluetooth, and Bluetooth is limited to the AAC codec. Higher quality Apple Lossless Audio files would need to be sent to the AirPods Pro directly in a way that circumvents Bluetooth, thus Apple would need to build some form of alternate connection mechanism.
Find My Sound Integration
To aid in location tracking, the upcoming AirPods Pro is rumoured to play a sound. Emitting a sound will let consumers locate their AirPods Pro if they are lost or forgotten someplace nearby.
Problems With the Development Process?
Getting the hardware of the AirPods Pro into a smaller container has proven to be tricky, so there could ultimately be revisions to the original design.
According to reports, Apple is having difficulty fitting the larger AirPods Pro’s components, such as the antennae and microphones, inside the smaller AirPods Pro’s body.
AirPods Pro 2 Leaked Images?
A charging case with speaker holes on the bottom and a lanyard hole on the side is depicted in a sketchy image that has been attributed to the next iteration of AirPods Pro. The speaker holes are purportedly for a Find My feature that will allow the case to be locatable even when the AirPods aren’t inside, with the case able to play a sound when lost.
The AirPods in the photographs do not have a stemless design as has been rumoured, and the source that gave the images said that the AirPods will not have the stemless design. The photographs were sent to MacRumors by someone claiming to be from an “Apple internal source,” but their authenticity cannot yet be confirmed, so they should be treated with caution for the time being.
Fitness Tracking
The next AirPods are believed to contain fitness tracking features enabled through built-in motion sensors, though what these fitness tracking functions will entail is unknown at this moment.
