Stimulus Checks Update: Gov. Tom Wolf Continues to Press Lawmakers to Give $2,000 Direct Payments to Pennsylvanians

Stimulus Checks Update: In West View, Pa. recently, Gov. Tom Wolf pushed the Republican-led General Assembly to adopt legislation that would provide $2,000 stimulus cheques to many Pennsylvanians making $80,000 or less.

Despite Wolf’s $1.7 billion proposal, which includes direct payments, Pennsylvania is only sitting on a $2 billion portion of the American Rescue Plan at this time, according to state officials.

“I’m talking about $2 billion that’s sitting in a checking account out in Harrisburg that if we don’t use it by the end of 2024, we have to send it back to Washington. Do you want to do that? I don’t,” Wolf said.

Wolf also stated that the stimulus checks update will assist in reducing increasing inflation rates.

Wolf had previously said in a statement related to Stimulus Checks Update, “Pennsylvanians shouldn’t have to choose between paying for utilities or groceries, childcare or gas. We have the opportunity and the means to ensure they’re not struggling, to ensure their success. I’m asking the General Assembly to unite across aisles on this for the sake of every Pennsylvanian — for when they succeed, our commonwealth succeeds. Let’s get this money out of our coffers and into the pockets of Pennsylvanians.”

The statement about Stimulus Checks Update continued, “The program aims to help families still recovering economically from the COVID-19 pandemic or support them with covering pandemic-related costs and managing the current, everyday increasing cost of living.”

Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate have introduced laws to support Wolf’s program: House Bill 2531 and Senate Bill 1204.

The $2 billion in federal ARPA aid will be returned to the federal government if it isn’t used by December 31, 2024.

“Now is the time to act, and the bill has already been introduced in the General Assembly,” said Wolf in a recent statement. “To the Republican leaders in the General Assembly, I say let’s pass this bill now.” For more such Stimulus Checks Update do follow us only on
