Why Gravity Falls Ended Before Having a Season 3?

A critical and ratings success, Gravity Falls was canceled after its second season that’s why there is no Gravity Falls Season 3, and here’s why. For the duration of its run, Gravity Falls was an animated mystery-comedy show created by Alex Hirsch. Twins Dipper and Mabel (played by Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal), aged 12, were sent to the enigmatic town of Gravity Falls, Oregon for the summer.

Alex Hirsch played Grunkle Stan, the great-uncle of the twins who ran the Mystery Shack, and was joined by Linda Cardellini as Wendy Corduroy, a Shack employee, and J.K. Simmons as Grunkle Ford, Stan’s long-lost twin. They all appeared in the film Gravity Falls.

Gravity Falls became one of the decade’s most influential cartoons during its short run. Three Annie Awards, two Emmy Awards for animation, and one BAFTA Children’s Award were given to the show. Additionally, its season 2 premiere garnered more than 2 million viewers on Disney XD.

Another aspect of Gravity Falls that has received praise is the way it successfully blends old-fashioned rural storytelling with modern humor, drawing in viewers of all ages and backgrounds. Even though it’s a kid’s cartoon, the show’s bizarre but clever and satirical setup elevates it to the level of a sophisticated show that even references Universal Monsters. So, when it was announced that Gravity Falls season 2 was the final one there will be no season 3, fans were taken by surprise.

The cancellation of Gravity Falls was not a slap in the face. To have canceled Gravity Falls after only two seasons would have been a huge mistake, as it would have let down fans as well as the creators. Instead, Alex Hirsch’s intentions as the show’s creator explain why Gravity Falls season 2 was the series’ final season.

Why did Gravity Falls end With Season 2?

Hirsch revealed on November 20th, 2015, that Gravity Falls would end its second season after its final two episodes and after that, there will be no Gravity Falls Season 3. He explained that Gravity Falls was ending, not being canceled because the news was so shocking. “A mystery that had a real answer, an adventure that had a real climax, and an ending that had a real conclusion for the characters” was Hirsch’s vision for Gravity Falls from the beginning. As a show about childhood, Gravity Falls was meant to capture the fleeting nature of it, so there was no point in dragging out the story and making a season 3.

There are “so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark,” as Hirsch himself put it. It is rare for a television show to end at its peak, making Gravity Falls a unique example of this phenomenon which was ended before having a season 3. In addition, the show was well-known for cultivating an investigative and interactive relationship with its audience through its programming.

In each episode’s credits, there was a cryptogram that viewers had to figure out how to decode. If the story had gone on past its logical conclusion, the initial mystery that drew viewers it might have been overshadowed or even forgotten about altogether. Gravity Falls season 3 and beyond would have been less enjoyable if this had been the case.

Will Gravity Falls Season 3 Ever Happen?

Gravity Falls Season 3 is highly unlikely given Alex Hirsch’s statement that the show was never intended to have more than two seasons in the first place. Season 2’s conclusion, in which nearly every mystery or conflict is resolved, doesn’t lend itself well to reopening if Gravity Falls Season 3 is ever attempted.

Gravity Falls could still be revived with a season 3 at some point with a new mystery, perhaps with an adult Dipper and Mabel return to the Mystery Shack as a grown-up Dipper and Mabel. If there is Gravity Falls Season 3, this could be a way to keep things interesting. Alex Hirsch, on the other hand, has no intention of doing so in the near future.

In the end, Alex Hirsch made the right choice by bringing Gravity Falls to a close with season 2 and not making a season 3. Initially, the abrupt end of the show disappointed fans, but in the long run, it only enhanced the show’s legacy. Magical realism-inspired adventure cartoons can be traced back to this original narrative style. The list goes on and on: Steven Universe, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, The Owl House, Amphibia, and Rick and Morty, to name just a few.

As evidenced by Netflix’s Inside Job, Gravity Falls’ ciphers and style can be seen in every episode of the show. Fans of Gravity Falls are still active today, with online discussions, fan fiction, and mail all circulating. Additionally, it created various merchandise, including books and even a video game called Gravity Falls: Legend of the Gnome Gemulets. There’s no doubt that Gravity Falls’ legacy will live on long after season 2 of the groundbreaking animated series has ended. For more such updates do follow us only  on leedaily.com
