Twitter Reacts To Bears Releasing Jeremiah Attaochu

Jeremiah Attaochu is in the news again and this time we are not talking about how fit he is with the Chicago Bears. The news right now is that the Chicago Bears have released defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu and this surprising move comes just after one season. It was just a week back when Jeremiah said how he feels about the Chicago Bears and their new system. However, it looks like a couple of rosters moves the Bears did ahead of the mandatory minicamp see defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu getting released and Mike Pennel, the nose tackle getting signed up.

Although it may have come as a big surprise for Jeremiah, it did look like to the fans and the experts that the new scheme of Matt Eberflu won’t be a right fit for the defender. As the world is seeing, Twitter reacts to the Bears releasing Jeremiah Attaochu and we have more news to update.

In conversation with the reporters, Jeremiah Attaochu said a week ago, “For sure, I’m definitely excited about this scheme.” He added, “I get to do one job and that’s getting off the ball, get in a track stance and use my athleticism” He made these comments in the OTAs conclusions on Wednesday.

“Being very versatile most of my career, standing up, dropping, I think it takes the thinking out it for a guy with superior athleticism. So, a guy that can get off the ball before everybody else, beat the O-lineman out of his stance, use my quickness, use my speed, so I definitely fit in very well”, Jeremiah Attaochu on the new system.

The release and swap for the new system is something that many have foreseen as the Chicago Bears have made their transition from the usual to a 4-3 defense. As Attachou is released, the Chicago Bears were quick to sign the nose tackle Mike Pennel in a corresponding roster move which makes this the second sting of Pennel with the Bears.

Attachou’s track record with the Bears however was quite short-lived as he appeared in just five games before he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the 5th week of his signing. Jeremiah Attaochu was signed by the Chicago Bears for a two-year deal in 2021 but he has been sidelined with the injury since the 5th week of the 2021 season.

Twitter reacts to Bears releasing Jeremiah Attaochu

Fans have taken it to Twitter to express their views on the current situation with Jeremiah. One Lucas Perfetti wrote, How long before Jeremiah Attaochu is on the Falcons?” while another one appreciated the swap mentioning Jeremiah not fitting the new scheme or system of the Bears.

Brendan Surgure wrote, “Mike Pennel is back for another go-around but this time with a new regime. I’m also surprised Attaochu lasted this long into the off-season”.

Jeremiah Attaochu’s Career Before Chicago Bears

Jeremiah Attaochu as a linebacker however had an interesting career since he was a second-round pick for the Chargers back in 2014. He had an amazing NFL debut where he recorded a strip back and a blocked punt, something every linebacker dreams of. Jeremiah Attaochu’s career’s best performance was in his sophomore season where he started in 12 games and put up an incredible show in all of them. However, in his last season with the Chargers, he was troubled with an ankle and foot injury and he could only do eight appearances in the season.

Going forward, Jeremiah Attaochu was signed as a free agent with San Francisco followed by the Jets. With only 2 appearances in 11 games, he was released again and signed with the Chiefs as a free agent before finally getting released again before the beginning of the season.

After a long unsigned phase, he was signed by the Broncos in October for the 2019 NFL season. His first year with the Broncos was good and he resigned for another year. In 2020, he started in 10 games and his resurgence with Denver made the Chicago Bears sign him for a two-year deal. His injury, however, caused a huge setback in his career yet again and now the Bears have released Jeremiah Attaochu and signed 31-year-old Pennel instead.

The release of Jeremiah Attaochu helped the Chicago Bears free up $2.45 million in the salary cap space. With this, the Bears now have $24.66 million in available cap space, per OTC which ranks third in the league.
