“Top Gun: Maverick” Surpassed “Doctor Strange” to Become the Highest Grossing Movie of 2022

Top Gun: Maverick has surpassed $400 million at the domestic picture office, edging out Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the year’s biggest blockbuster. It has become only the second picture since the outbreak of COVID-19 to gross more than $400 million in the United States, beating out Spider-Man: No Way Home.

According to box office estimates, the Tom Cruise sequel picture has smashed them all. Maverick made $362 million overseas, increasing its worldwide total to $783.8 million. The budget of Top Gun: Maverick is 170 million USD. Due to robust ticket sales, the picture is already within striking distance of the $1 billion threshold reserved for only the biggest blockbusters.

The picture also set a new high watermark for Cruise’s career in the United States and is expected to easily overtake his global record holder, Mission Impossible: Fallout, which now stands at $791 million in global ticket sales. After inflation, it is expected to surpass the $440 million figure of the original Top Gun, putting it firmly at the top of the Cruise food chain. Until the new Mission Impossible is released.

It was a great Memorial Day weekend for Maverick, which raked in $248 million worldwide. As evidenced by the film’s record-low 32 percent domestic second-weekend dip, the film continues to be a persistent presence. With those steady, continuous advances, it’s likely to hang on to the domestic record for the year.

Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are the next two Marvel heavyweights to enter the fray for the 2022 title. In addition, there’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, a sequel to the long-running Illumination franchise.

As a result of this, Top Gun: Maverick has demonstrated the power of a good sequel. As a followup to the much-loved Cruise classic, this picture has been widely applauded as a formidable successor, with some even going so far as to suggest it has exceeded the long shadow cast by its predecessor. Rotten Tomatoes ranks the film’s audience and critic scores at 99 percent and 97 percent, respectively, indicating that both groups agree.

Cruise reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in addition to a cast that includes Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as Jennifer Connelly as well as Greg Tarzan Davis and Lewis Pullman. The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski and reportedly cost $170 million to make.
