“The first Dirty Dancing has always been one of my favorite movies, but I never thought I’d be in charge of making the second one,” said co-writer and director Jonathan Levine. “Because I helped write it, I fell in love with the new and old characters, the world of the Catskills in New York in the 1990s, and the music, which will include songs from the original movie as well as hip-hop from the 1990s.

The Dirty Dancing Sequel Will Honor The Late Patrick Swayze
In an interview with Deadline, Levine said that Baby might not be the only character from the first Dirty Dancing Sequel to come back. He said that the team working on the sequel will try to get in touch with some of the original actors. Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer in 2009, but the production team is talking to the late actor’s estate about how to include his character Johnny respectfully.
Levine told the outlet, “Johnny is a part of Baby’s journey in the story.” “This movie talks back and forth with the original. We’d like to tell this story to a whole new group of people. Still, Johnny’s absence is a big part of the story, so in a way, Baby’s character is also growing up as the story goes on.”
