American history saw a dark day on Friday with the final ruling that led to overturning Roe V. Wade. When the world needs to take a step forward to protect women’s rights and human rights as a whole, America imposed a total ban on abortion in as many as 13 states. The 1973 Roe V. Wade ruling gave women access to the right to abortion.
But with the reversal of the ruling after 50+ years, everyone around the world is feeling that it is a major setback for human rights in this 21st century.

President Joe Biden had expressed extreme concerns and even requested to reconsider this decision. He criticized the court’s decision by saying,
“The court has done what it has never done before: expressly take away a constitutional right that is so fundamental to so many Americans.”
Post Roe V. Wade America: What Does It Look Like?
The court even tried to justify the decision by claiming that there was no mention of abortion rights in the constitution of America. Women are scared of what the future looks like for them in this country post this ban.
The ban on abortion means there will be an increase in the number of illegal abortions by harmful and unsafe means.
Besides, those who do not have the money to travel to states where abortion is legal, may either have to continue with the pregnancy or rely on clinically unproven measures if they really want to abort the child. Even if they give birth to their child, the future is uncertain as some may not have the economic capability to raise a child.
Another dark side of this decision is the potential threat it has on rape victims. In case, the victims get pregnant and decide to abort the child, they cannot do so. In every way, this ban has become a curse.
Can The Citizens Still Buy And Rely On Plan B?
In 1965, married women were given the right to buy and consume contraception as passed in the Supreme Court case Griswold v. Connecticut. Later, in the Eisenstadt v. Baird case, these exclusive rights were made accessible to all and so, unmarried women were also eligible to purchase and have contraception protection. These rights were “protected under the right to privacy”. But so was Roe v. Wade. Now, when the Roe. V Wade’s ruling could be overturned and banned, all these cases are currently at risk.

But the Plan B which is the right to take oral emergency contraception within “five days after unprotected sex” is still in the act. These morning-after pills are available in two different types, levonorgestrel pills, and ulipristal acetate-based Ella pills. As of now, women have access to take these if they feel the risk of getting pregnant.
Are Plan B and Contraceptives Still Legal In Texas Post The Roe V. Wade Overturned?
The decision to reverse Roe V. Wade ruling has raised many questions. Texas is legally bound to ban all abortions in the upcoming months. But women will have the right to get emergency access to birth control and contraceptives popularly known as Plan B. This constitutional right hasn’t been changed.
Justice Samuel Alito who was one of the major influences in making this decision said, “To ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right,” “Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”
