What About the Plot of the Netflix film Purple Hearts?
Netflix has released a brief summary of what viewers may expect from Purple Hearts. Even though it’s not stated, Cassie and Luke wed only because of the military advantages they receive from the United States government.
As a failing musician and a troubled marine, Cassie and Luke agree to wed for the sake of military benefits. In the face of adversity, the border between reality and fiction blurs.
Production Weekly’s extended synopsis, as published by What’s on Netflix in 2021, sheds more light on the needs of both characters in a marriage. Cassie’s daily expenses have skyrocketed since she was just diagnosed with diabetes. Bartender-turned-musician-in-the-making can’t afford the medical bills she’s accrued due to her recent cancer diagnosis.
Frankie, a soldier in the Army, proposed to her so she could get health insurance to cover her diabetic expenditures. When he joins the military as a married man, he’ll be eligible for a raise. When he declines her, his friend Luke steps forward to fill his shoes and does the honors. Although he is believed to have “desperate reasons” for wanting to be married himself, it is unclear how his marriage to her will benefit him. It’s a common theme in movies of this type when a phony marriage that the two actors are trying to sell becomes a real one.

There are a number of issues that the film might address, depending on what Luke’s motivations are. People with diabetes are forced to cut back on their insulin since it is becoming increasingly expensive, increasing their risk of developing diabetes-related problems. Bartender Cassie is likely to be uninsured or underinsured for the mounting medical expenditures she is currently facing.
It is possible that Luke will benefit from the marriage for a variety of reasons, ranging from “silly” things like his parents’ disapproval of him having a girlfriend to the military’s higher living allowance. In the summary from Production Weekly, the character is described as “frustratingly intense,” which could indicate that the circumstances would benefit him. In the event that there is a problem in his life, perhaps the marriage can assist alleviate it.
