On October 17, 1962, Michael Craig Judge was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He is the second child of Margaret Yvonne (née Blue) and William James Judge, a librarian and an archaeologist. Throughout his childhood, his father worked for a non-profit in Ecuador that supported farmers.
