The death of a woman in Monmouth last year resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man on suspicion of causing bodily harm via reckless or careless driving. At around 9.55 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021, a collision occurred at the intersection of Wonastow Road and Somerset Road in Monmouth involving a male cyclist and a female pedestrian.
After an accident, Jane Stone, 79, a pedestrian, was brought to the hospital. On June 11 of this year, she succumbed to her injuries. According to police, the biker in question has been identified as Stewart McGinn, 29.
The charge has been confirmed by Gwent Police. They said: “A now 29-year-old man from Monmouth has been charged with causing bodily harm by wanton/furious driving.” An arraignment date has been set for 29-year-old Troy Way resident Stewart McGinn at Newport Crown Court.

The teacher’s family previously paid tribute to the late Ms. Stones in an emotional letter. According to many who knew her, she was well-liked and respected.
‘Jane was a caring and active member of the Monmouth community,’ they said. She was well-respected and admired in her job as a teacher because she was educated in London after being raised in Monmouth. She returned to Monmouth after her husband’s death and, as a widow, was eager to get involved in as many elements of community life as she could.
When needed, she assisted and supported members of the community while serving as a previous Churchwarden of St. Thomas’s Church, a Lay Eucharistic Minister, and a Sacristan. “As recently as a few years ago, she was abseiling down the church tower to raise money for charity.” While working for The Arts Society, she supervised a group of church recorders (formerly National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies).
In addition to being a member of the Monmouth Choral Society, she also attended performances by the Merlin Music Society. She was a long-distance walker who set herself the goal of walking 1,000 miles a year, and she and a buddy were currently traversing Offa’s Dyke from the South to the North of Wales as part of their challenge.
Her great-nieces and great-nephews adored her, and she was devoted to keeping up with their lives. Stay tuned with us only on Lee Daily
