Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk welcomed twins last year with an executive from one of his other firms, Neuralink, according to a report published by Business Insider on Wednesday. On May 24, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “USA birth rate has been below min sustainable levels for 50 years” and pinned it to the top of his more than 100 million-follower Twitter account. He quietly fathered the children with Shivon Zilis, who works for Musk at the company that hopes to develop an implantable computer chip for the human brain.
Musk’s last name and Zilis’ as part of the children’s middle names were included in court records obtained by the media source. According to a Travis County, Texas court docket obtained by CNN Business, a name change petition was initially filed in April 2022 and granted in early May, which matches the dates on the documents reported by Business Insider. Both Musk and Zilis are listed as the mother and father on the court-stamped documents.

Representatives from Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink did not immediately reply to demands for comment from Musk. According to her LinkedIn profile, Zilis has had a professional relationship with Musk since at least April 2016, when she became an advisor to OpenAI. “Ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity,” is Musk’s mission statement for OpenAI, the non-profit research lab he co-founded with others.
To demonstrate off the progress of Neuralink’s technology, which it had implanted in a pig, Musk conducted a live-streamed event in August 2020. Nearly a year later, Neuralink claimed that its chips might enable monkeys to play Pong. As a result, Neuralink has had to address questions about its testing techniques, denying animal cruelty accusations but acknowledging earlier this year that monkeys died during testing.
She has worked for Tesla and Neuralink since May 2017, according to Zilis’ LinkedIn profile. At Neuralink, she is a director of operations and special projects. Zilis will join OpenAI’s board of directors in 2020. In the past, Zilis worked for a Bloomberg venture capital fund (where she was named to Forbes’ list of the world’s most promising young venture capitalists in 2015) and IBM. On top of all of that, she’s been a board member for at least two more AI-related organizations. An inquiry for comment was not immediately returned by Zilis.
Musk is believed to be the father of the second set of twins. Musk and Justine, his first wife, welcomed their first set of twins in 2004, followed by a set of triplets the following year. Musk and musician Claire Boucher, better known as Grimes, had two children together later on. In December 2021, a surrogate gave birth to their second child. Stay tuned with us only on Lee Daily
