Before starting his career in politics, he was an investment banker for Goldman Sachs as well as many other hedge funds. In 2009, Sunak tied the knot with the billionaire, the owner of Infosys, Narayan Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murty. This helped to shape who is Rishi Sunak today.
The Political Career of Rishi Sunak
Before 2015, everyone may have referred who is Rishi Sunak but not anymore. Sunak started his political career in 2015 when he got elected as the Conservative MP for Richmond, Yorkshire. He supported Brexit in the early stage. As a matter of fact, he was also seen in the role of a junior minister during the time of former UK PM Theresa May.
Later, Sunak also supported Boris Johnson to win the 2019 election. Initially, he was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury but later in February 2020, he became the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Though he had to face a lot of struggles during the pandemic period, he did win many personal votes in his favor as per the poll’s results. He even prevented mass unemployment during the Covid-19 pandemic and that was a major achievement.
The question about who is Rishi Sunak can be rightfully answered through his reputation. He is known as the “golden boy” of British politics. However, he also had his fair share of scandals. His wife, Akshata Murty’s finances were in question as she was living in a non-domicile status and failed to pay taxes in the UK on the income she had overseas. Rishi was also involved in the “partygate scandal” when the investigators found out about Johnson and Rishi breaching the tight lockdown rules. He was fined for that.
