Monday, the head of the electric car company tweeted that the claim that he had an affair with Shanahan was “total BS.” He also said that he and Brin were still friends.

The WSJ said over the weekend, based on unnamed sources, that Musk had a short affair with Shanahan in December of last year. The paper said that Brin’s affair with Shanahan caused him to file for divorce from her in January and ended their long friendship.

Musk tweeted on Sunday that he and Brin were at a party and that there was “nothing romantic” between him and Shanahan, a lawyer and research fellow at CodeX, a group at Stanford University in California that uses technology to improve legal processes. She is also the head of a foundation that works to improve the criminal justice system, help women live longer and have more children, and study climate change.

Musk later told his more than 100 million followers on Twitter that he had “lost count” of how many “hit pieces” the WSJ had written about him. Musk said that the news organization once said that the FBI was going to arrest him. However, a 2018 WSJ article that says Tesla is the subject of a criminal investigation does not say that arrests are going to happen.

The Journal said Brin asked for a divorce because he and his wife had “irreconcilable differences.” The Journal got this information from court records in Santa Clara County. Brin is on the board of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, and has a fortune of $94.6 billion, according to Bloomberg. He is the eighth richest person in the world. Musk is the richest person in the world. He is worth $242bn.

In its report, the WSJ also said that after Brin found out about the affair, he told his advisers to sell his own investments in Musk’s companies. The paper said that it couldn’t figure out how much money was invested or if any sales were made.

The WSJ published the allegation at the same time that Musk is going to court in October to try to get out of his $44bn deal to buy Twitter. Twitter wants to force Musk to go through with a deal that would give the company a value of $54.20 per share. Musk backed out of the deal this month because he was worried about the number of fake accounts on the social media site.
