In the defamation case that Amber Heard and Johnny Depp brought against each other in June, a jury in Virginia found in favor of Amber Heard and awarded her $2 million in damages. Now, the actor who appeared in “Pirates of the Caribbean” has filed a legal appeal against the defamation judgment of $2 million.
This new turn of events occurred after the actress from “Aquaman” submitted a formal notice of her intention to appeal the decision in the trial that Depp brought against her.
According to Deadline, the text of the notice of appeal went as follows: “Plaintiff and Counterclaim-Defendant John C. Depp, II, via counsel, hereby appeals to the Court of Appeals of Virginia from all adverse findings and from the final judgment order of this Circuit Court entered on June 24, 2022.” In addition, the article indicated that the actor from “Pirates of the Caribbean” had submitted his application to participate in the procedure.
Damages of USD 15 million were granted to Depp by the jury in Virginia; however, due to a Virginia rule that places a cap on punitive damages, Heard was ordered to pay USD 10.35 million (the judge reduced the amount). Heard was successful on one of the three defamation charges in her countersuit, which resulted in her being granted USD 2 million in damages.
