Kate Moss Explains Why She Chose to Testify in Johnny Depp's Trial: ‘I Know the Truth’

During Johnny Depp’s high-profile defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Kate Moss claimed she felt she “had to say that truth”. She refuted Heard’s accusation that Depp shoved her down the stairs in the 1990s when she appeared in court in March through a video link.

During their Jamaican vacation, the model, who dated Depp from 1994 to 1998, claimed that she had fallen and he had helped her up. “I know the truth about Johnny,” Moss said to host Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, during a recent visit. The truth is, I’m sure he never kicked me down the stairs. To tell the truth, I had no choice.

Depp was granted $10 million (£8 million) in compensation damages and $5 million (£4 million) in punitive damages after a jury determined that Heard had defamed him on all three charges. No punitive damages were granted to Heard for her actions.

“We were leaving the room, Johnny left before I did, and there had been a rain storm,” Moss said at the time of her testimony. I slipped down the stairs and bruised my back as I left the room. “I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me back to my room, and got me medical attention.”

Kate Moss also stated that Depp “never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs” during their time together. A cross-examination of Moss was turned down by the defense.
