What Happened to Hunter Moore?
Once out of prison, Hunter Moore has remained relatively anonymous since his release in 2017. Over the last decade, he has worked on a few unique initiatives. According to Substream, Hunter released a single in 2017 called “Make The Internet Great Again.” In 2018, Moore also published a novel titled Is Anyone Up?
Hunter Moore now maintains a low-key social media presence. Despite being banned from Facebook and Instagram, he was still active on Twitter under the name @iamhuntermoore until just a short time ago. In his Twitter bio, Moore refers to himself as a small town Christan [Christian] boy’. Though his account was suspended recently.
Before his account was closed, he tweeted that he was now living his life “peacefully.” He wrote, “Look guys, I did my time behind bars. Living my life peacefully now, it’s been a decade about what happened. Some of you love me, most of you hates me, if you want me to apologise well I wouldn’t. I don’t owe anyone anything.”
What Did Hunter Moore Do?
One of the earliest examples of a revenge porn website was founded by Moore: IsAnyoneUp.com. Hunter, who was 26 at the time of the website’s inception, became well-known when it was formed in the early 2010s. On average, between five and 30 images were added to the porn site every day for the first 16 months of its existence.
The service, which was created in 2010, allows users to post photographs and personal information about other people, including their names and addresses, on the internet without their knowledge or permission. “The ex’s full name, profession, social-media profile, and city of residence” were included with the pictures, according to Rolling Stone. This made sure that the pictures would show up on Google, so family, friends, and coworkers could easily find the information.
There is no doubt that Moore was an enormous narcissist who showed little remorse for his actions and had an exaggerated view of his own importance. The horrible display of public gaslighting by Anderson Cooper on his CNN chat program in 2011 is one such example. Cooper told victims on the show that what happened to them was their responsibility because they allowed the images to be taken. “I’m a professional life ruiner,” he boasted, comparing himself to Charles Manson.
Is Hunter Moore in Jail for His Crime?
Yes, Moore was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in 2017 following an FBI investigation into his actions. However, according to Charlotte Laws, the mother of one of the victims, this was only possible because of the involvement of a hacker.
It was discovered to The Guardian that the police and FBI only took Charlotte seriously when there was evidence of hacking. “If a hacker hadn’t been involved, there would have been no case to answer and the site would still be up. But because there was, they took it seriously,” she said.
Laws helped build a case against Moore after getting help from the FBI. Acknowledging his role in an identity theft scheme that resulted in his arrest and subsequent plea deal, he admitted his guilt in court in February 2015.
During his sentencing, US district judge Dolly Gee stated “, “He hid behind his online persona and engaged in aberrant behavior. Now you must face the consequences of your own actions. Your poor judgment has caused much pain to your victims and your family.”
