After Stranger Things’ amazing fourth season, Netflix is looking for another big summer hit. When Neil Gaiman’s world of The Sandman comes out this week, those dreams may still come true.
Based on the DC Comics phenomenon of the 1990s, Gaiman’s cult title has millions of passionate fans who have immersed themselves mind, body, and soul into the complex worldbuilding and mythology of the best-selling British author’s fertile imagination. The Sandman is one of the few comics in the last few decades that has made such a strong group of fans.
But Hollywood has been hesitant to make a movie based on the comic because it has a complicated plot and is set in a complicated universe… until now.
Let’s learn more about the godlike gothic beings of The Sandman so we can know what to expect when Gaiman’s visionary masterpiece finally comes to life on TV.

What Is The Plot Of Sandman?
Here’s what Netflix says about the show:
The Sandman is a rich mix of modern myth and dark fantasy in which modern fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly woven together. It tells the story of the people and places that Morpheus, the Dream King, affects as he fixes the cosmic and human mistakes he’s made over the course of his long life.

With 10 volumes of comics and 75 issues spread out over seven years, from 1989 to 1996, there’s a lot to play with. The first season of The Sandman will be based on the first three books in the series, which are called Preludes and Nocturnes, The Doll’s House, and Dream Country.
Tom Sturridge – Plays Dream of the Endless
Dream, the main character of the show, is one of the seven Endless, which are beings that are even more powerful than gods.
The dream is both a god and a personification of dreams, stories, and other things that don’t happen in real life.
Gwendolyn Christie – Plays Lucifer
A fallen angel who used to rule Hell. In the first comics, the characters were drawn to look like David Bowie.
Sanjeev Bhaskar & Asim Chaudhry – Play Cain & Abel
In Gaiman’s Sandman, Cain and Abel are invited by Dream to live in the Dreaming.
Cain is an aggressive, bossy character in Gaiman’s story. He is thin and has long legs. His face is sharp and drawn, and he wears glasses, a bushy beard, and hair that is pulled into two points above his ears.
Abel is shy and kind, but he stutters when he talks.
Charles Dance – Plays Roderick Burgess
Vivienne Acheampong – Plays Lucienne
When Dream isn’t around, he is in charge of the Dreaming, and he is one of the most loyal and trusted servants. Their main job is to guard the Library, which holds all the books that have ever been thought of, even ones that have never been written.
Boyd Holbrook – Plays The CorinthianNetflix
A nightmare created by Dream, who has two additional mouths in the place of his eyes.
Kirby Howell-Baptiste – Plays Death
Neil Gaiman said: “Dream’s sister is much smarter, nicer, and wiser than Dream. More difficult to cast than you might think (well, than I imagined, anyway). There were hundreds of brilliant women from all over the world who tried out, but none of them were right. Someone who could tell Dream the truth while also being the kind of person you’d want to meet when your life is over. Then we saw Kirby Howell audition, Baptiste’s and we knew we had our Death.”
