Review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is Currently Underway. The Entertaining Foldable Receives Upgrades

The improvements made to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 are more incremental than revolutionary. Its thinner bezels and smoother corners give it a more expensive appearance and feel. Despite that, it’s still a great little phone for entertainment. Samsung’s content production tools and overall feel are aimed squarely at the youth market, whereas the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a more “adult” and “professional” appearance.

However, the same may be said for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3. Not only was it a fun phone to use, but it also included a host of upgrades and a completely new design compared to its predecessor. Now, let’s talk about what makes the Galaxy Z Flip 4 special. To tell you the truth, not really.

This year is all about refinement, almost to the point of disappointment. Samsung did improve the cameras by adopting a more luminous primary sensor, resulting in better shots even in dim light. While I haven’t finished my thorough testing, my initial observations are that the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s cameras operate similarly to the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s, which is to say, not at the level you would expect from a $999 phone. The ultrawide, however, hasn’t changed.

This ongoing evaluation of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will show that I have mixed feelings regarding the device. It’s not quite the improvement over last year’s model that I had hoped for, but it’s not a horrible phone by any stretch of the imagination. Over the next few days, as I collect my final thoughts and test findings, I will post an update.

After you’ve finished reading this, head on over to our reviews of the Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro for a more in-depth look at Samsung’s newest products.

Where to Get the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and How Much It Costs

On August 26, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be available for purchase from Samsung and other stores and carriers. Pre-ordering the phone via Samsung now entitles you to a free storage upgrade and your choice of a Silicone Ring Case or Strap Case.

The base model of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM and costs $999 (or £999) in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively. However, if you need more space, you can pay an extra $1,059 for the 256GB model or $1,179 for the brand-new 512GB variant. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 hasn’t changed much from the outside.

If you’re a fan of the clamshell foldable design, you might find this satisfactory. This phone is the right size, and it slips into my pocket without protruding at all. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 is available in a wide variety of colors, just like last year’s model. If you’re looking for sober, there’s Graphite; if you’re looking for something more exciting, try Blue, Pink Gold, or Bora Purple.

Review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s Cameras

While I’m still working on my Galaxy Z Flip 4 camera review, here are some preliminary impressions and observations. So far, the Flip 4’s camera performance has seemed very similar to that of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung’s enhanced post-processing, as seen on the Galaxy S22 line, isn’t present here.

Instead, I have a bunch of over-saturated, overexposed photographs that, when compared to my iPhone 13 Pro Max, don’t look all that fantastic. The colors in many of my shots up to this point are extremely saturated, to the point where they are difficult to look at. I took a picture of various colorful books in my home, however, the result on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 was really disappointing.

Weaknesses in exposure and color correction are especially noticeable when compared to the iPhone. I haven’t tried taking photos in low light yet, but perhaps Samsung’s Nightography feature and brighter main camera sensor will come in. To be honest, I’m not too optimistic given the results of the camera’s beta testing thus far.

Battery life and Charging Speed of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

Even under ideal conditions, the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s battery life left much to be desired, but Samsung listened to complaints and improved it. According to data from Tom’s Guide’s battery life test, the Flip 3 lasted for only 5 hours, 43 minutes when using the adaptive refresh rate setting. I can’t remember a worse outcome than that in recent memory.

The battery on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 was upgraded from 3,300 mAh to 3,700 mAh. To be honest, the extra 400 mAh doesn’t seem like much, but the results of our battery life test on the Flip 4 remain to be seen. Unfortunately, despite this year’s improvement to 25W charging, no charger is included.

This first impression of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is not encouraging. It declined by about 15% despite doing little more than sitting for a few hours. While it has been used for setup and some basic photography, it hasn’t been put through its paces too much. With the same amount of effort, other phones only drop a few percentage points. When data on battery life is available, I will revise my assessment.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 Release Date

Keep August 26 free, since that’s when Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 4. At this time, you can expect to purchase a Z Flip 4.
