Anne Heche, whose family said in a statement that she is “not expected to survive” the vehicle tragedy in which she was involved, was an ex-girlfriend of Ellen DeGeneres’. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Heche was rushed to the hospital after her car “erupted in heavy fire” after colliding with a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.
When were Ellen and Anne dating?
After DeGeneres announced her sexual orientation as a lesbian in 1997, Heche became her first high-profile girlfriend. Dating for a few years, DeGeneres and Heche split up in 2000. At a Vanity Fair party, Heche told the Tampa Bay Times in 1998. This was a chemical reaction that defies explanation.
“It just happened. Obviously, I was attracted to her, but that wasn’t enough. There are a lot of attractive people. She is so unique.” While dancing on Dancing with the Stars in October 2020, Heche revealed that she was warned her career could be in peril if she went public with the relationship before they made their red carpet debut at Heche’s film premier for Volcano in 1997.

She said: “I had told them that I was taking Ellen as my date and I was told if I took Ellen, I would lose my Fox contract.” “At that moment, [Ellen] took my hand and said, “Do what they say,” and I said, “No thanks”.”
Heche and DeGeneres went to the premiere together despite the desires of the studio, but they were “ushered out by security before the movie had concluded.” Then, “for fear they would get pictures of me with a woman,” Heche was advised that she couldn’t attend her own after party.
A year ago, in an interview with Page Six, Heche claimed that she had been “blacklisted” from Hollywood because of her relationship with DeGeneres. She stated: “I didn’t do a studio picture for 10 years. “I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture.”
Heche noted that she was in talks to act opposite Harrison Ford in the blockbuster romantic comedy Six Days, Seven Nights at the time she went public with DeGeneres. She stated that the studio no longer wanted her for the role because of her connection, but that all changed when she returned home to find a crucial message from Ford.
As she put it, “He said, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn who you’re sleeping with. We have a romantic comedy to make. Let’s make it the best one that’s ever happened”. “That is why Harrison Ford is my hero. To stand behind me at such a time when the force of what I was standing up for could have been toppled.”
How did they break up?
DeGeneres and Heche’s relationship ended in August of 2000. They issued a joint statement reading, “It is an amicable parting, and we greatly value the three and a half years we have spent together.” DeGeneres told the Los Angeles Times a year after their breakup that the split had surprised her.
She stated: “[Heche] walked out the door and I haven’t spoken to her since, I don’t have the answers. I would love to have them myself. I would ask all of the questions that everyone else wants to ask.” “I’m left with everybody else wondering what happened. I don’t know. I really don’t…. I feel betrayed.”
It was the “first time I’ve had my heart broken, and it was in a big way,” DeGeneres said. Coleman Laffoon, a cameraman Heche had met during DeGeneres’ stand-up comedy tour, became her husband on September 1, 2001. Her and Laffoon’s son Homer was born in March 2002.
Laffoon filed for divorce in February 2007 after five and a half years of marriage, the divorce was finalized in March 2009. They had their son, Atlas, in March of 2009. Rumor has it that Heche dumped Laffoon for her co-star in Men in Trees, James Tupper. After that, in 2018, they ended up divorced.
DeGeneres dated photographer Alexandra Hedison from 2000 through 2004 after breaking up with Heche. She started dating actress Portia de Rossi in 2004, and they’ve been together ever since. They tied the knot in 2008, the year after California lifted its prohibition on same-sex marriage.
How has Ellen DeGeneres reacted to Anne Heche’s accident?

ET Online has posted video of DeGeneres discussing Heche with a photographer. The photographer asked DeGeneres if she has spoken to Hench since the accident, and she responded, “We’re not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know.”
She answered, “Sure, I don’t want anyone to be hurt,” when asked if she wanted to send her condolences to Heche following the accident. DeGeneres said, “Sure was,” after the photographer remarked, “It was quite a dangerous accident that happened, wasn’t it?”
What happened to Ann Heche?
Heche got in a terrible vehicle accident on August 5th, which has put her in a coma. A family statement says that Heche “is not expected to survive” the accident. The actress has been diagnosed with “severe anoxic brain injury” and is currently in a critical coma state.
After the crash in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, the 53-year-old was taken to the hospital. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recently acknowledged to the PA news agency that they were treating the crash as a criminal DUI investigation.
Preliminary blood tests showed the presence of narcotics in Heche’s system, according to an LAPD spokesman, although the spokesman noted that more testing was needed to rule out any medicines supplied in the hospital.
This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.

A few hours later, her family sent a statement to PA saying that they were keeping Heche on life support for the time being. In a statement, Anne’s family expressed gratitude to all who had prayed for her recovery and to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital for their treatment of Anne.
Unfortunately, Anne Heche had a severe anoxic brain injury in the accident and is still in a coma in critical condition. According to the report, her prognosis is very poor. On November 6, 2021, in Del Mar, California, Anne Heche is among the VIP guests for the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar Race Track.
“It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.” The statement added: “Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. “More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work – especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love.”
“She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.” US media source TMZ received photos and video of the aftermath of the collision, showing Heche driving a blue Mini Cooper that was later seen badly damaged at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the vehicle crashed into a two-story house and “erupted in heavy fire”. According to the LAFD report, it took over 50 firefighters 65 minutes to gain entry, contain the fire, and put it out completely within the extensively damaged building.
A representative for Heche earlier revealed to PA that the actress had a “significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation” and “burns that require surgical intervention.” Stay tuned with us only Lee Daily
