Batman Animated Series Canceled By HBO Max

According to Sources, HBO Max has canceled six more cartoon shows. J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm co-creator of Batman: The Animated Series, are behind one of these shows, Batman: Caped Crusader. The show, which premieres this year, was revealed as a follow-up to Timm’s iconic 1990s show last year.

Unlike some of the other episodes and movies HBO Max has canceled in recent weeks, development is proceeding on these projects. The production teams will seek another home for them. In addition to The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie, this round of cancellations includes Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story and The Looney Tunes Christmas Carol.

HBO Max is deprioritizing kids and family entertainment. A large number of programs including several animated ones were removed last week. It also removed hundreds of Sesame Street episodes in an apparent move to save on license payments. On top of that, HBO Max canceled exclusive movies Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt and took down other important original shows and movies in recent weeks.

What’s more, the streaming service and sibling HBO laid off many employees from the family programming section this month. With the impending merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ next year, parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is deleting some content from HBO Max.

Changes are coming to the content available on both HBO Max and Discovery+ as the companies “work toward bringing our content inventories together under one platform.” Warner Bros. Discovery which was formed through the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery earlier this year has made the choice to cancel and delete the content as part of its ongoing attempt to reduce costs.

In an effort to save $3 billion, CEO David Zaslav and his team have seen a 25% drop in stock price since August 4th. In the past month, the market value of the corporation has fallen by billions. The Last of Us footage looks amazing, though.
