It is reasonable to start planning for Destiny 2 Season 18 now that the plot for Season of the Haunted has reached a significant turning point this week. The seasonal drama came to an end in week 7 with Calus “joining” The Witness and Eris Morn admonishing them that it was already too late and that this was “the beginning of the end.”
So what happens next in the narrative? Here is everything we currently know about Destiny 2 Season 18. There will undoubtedly be more teasers in the upcoming weeks.
When Does Destiny 2 Season 18 Start?
By tradition, each season in Destiny 2 lasts for three months. To keep players engaged a weekly challenge is also published. Release of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen which also marked the beginning of Season 16 “Season of the Risen” marked the beginning of the game’s fifth year.
Season 17 also known as “Season of the Haunted” is currently airing and will end on August 23, 2022. If Bungie doesn’t change the timetable Season 18 of Destiny 2 will start at this time. The game will typically be offline for several hours on the day of release for maintenance. To give gamers adequate notice Bungie often made this announcement a few days in advance.
The latest Destiny 2 patch will be made available on all platforms and territories as maintenance is finished. Players can typically log back into Destiny 2 at this point.
However, it’s common for users to encounter an error message saying that Destiny 2 is temporarily at capacity when there are so many people trying to log back in.

Original Story – There isn’t a lot of information available with @DestinyTwoLeaks on Twitter having provided the only substantial leak to date.
It’s been slow recently, so here’s a roundup of what might be coming in S18. As always, take it with a grain of salt.

New Raid
We have to admit that a season with a pirate theme sounds like a lot of fun, especially after the (great) yet laborious storytelling that came with Season of the Haunted. As we reach the third season of Year 5 players will probably be yearning for something a little bit meatier. Season 18 introduced the new Duality dungeon which was wonderful. Bungie has revealed that the game will have a new Raid which is wonderful news.
The team hasn’t released any information regarding the new raid yet, although there has been a lot of speculation that Bungie would include one of the two potential raids from Destiny 1. Many people think King’s Fall or Wrath of the Machine will be included in the game with @DestinyTwoLeaks on Twitter speculating that it might be the former. I’m sorry SIVA fans.
It was confirmed in a Bungie TWAB blog post from July that the new raid will go live on August 26 at 10 AM Pacific. Bungie added the following cautions as well:
- The raid will launch with Contest Mode enabled for 24 hours.
- You will need to be at 1560 Power to be at the cap for all of the encounters.
- Clearing the raid with Contest Mode active is the first step to accessing the new Challenge Mode in the Director and the extraordinary Triumph for completing all of the challenge Triumphs for each encounter.
- Completing the personal Triumph a curated list of challenges in this newly unlocked Challenge Mode will be how a fireteam crosses the World First finish line and claims their prize.
- To enforce the Triumph requirements in the Challenge Mode your team will wipe if you fail the success conditions during any encounter.
New Crucible Map
Disjunction, a new crucible map from Season of the Haunted by Bungie took place on Savathun’s Throne World.
However, Iron Banner: Rift matches were the only times the map was playable. Fortunately, Bungie will include the map in the standard Crucible map pool in Season 18 so you should be able to play this eerie new map a lot more in the future.
ARC 3.0 Subclass
When Destiny 2: The Witch Queen was released the Bungie team set about redesigning the game’s current classes to make them more compatible with Stasis. Players received Void 3.0 in Season 16; Solar 3.0 followed in Season 17 and Arc 3.0 will only be available in Season 18.
With inspiration from Crank 2: High Voltage, Arc 3.0 is all about speed and impact.

In a now-deleted tweet from earlier this year, Sandbox Lead Kevin Yanes speculated that Arc 3.0 might take inspiration from the Synaptic Spear utilized in Season of the Risen (S16). We anticipate finding out a little bit more about Arc 3.0 and its fresh features and pieces very soon.
Destiny 2 Season 18 Weapons
While Bungie hasn’t verified which weapons will be added to certain activities in Season 18 we do know which ones will be taken away and they are mentioned below.
- Iron Banner – Peacebond Sidearm, Archon’s Thunder Machine Gun
- Nightfall – PLUG ONE.1 Fusion Rifle, The Hothead Rocket Launcher
- Trials of Osiris – Eye of Sol Sniper Rifle, The Summoner Auto Rifle
In addition, Bungie has confirmed a few things the team is looking at addressing in the future (either in a Season 18 mid-Season patch or Season 19):
- Reducing Shotgun spread randomness.
- Reducing Bow-swapping effectiveness.
- Increasing Trace Rifle’s ease of use.
- Introducing the full-auto setting.
- Reducing the ability of Snipers to shoot through flinch in PvP.
- Examining some small, targeted balance changes to certain PvP outliers.
- Pulse Rifles with out-of-band effectiveness.
- High Impact Scout Rifle ease of use.
- Precision Fusion Rifle ease of use.
- Allowing Glaive interactions with some Exotic armors that buff melees.
- Fixing Glaive hit detection.
- Reworking some enhanced perks.
- Folding Spec mods into the base perks.
