Steve White, a defensive end who played in the NFL for seven years with the Buccaneers and Jets, died on Tuesday. He was 48 years old. White said in April that he needed a bone marrow transplant. He had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
On social media, friends and former teammates paid tribute to him.

Tyoka Jackson, who also played for the Buccaneers, tweeted, “#RIP to my road game roommate @sgw94. I’m sorry for his wife, kids, and other family and friends. We’ll never forget the memories, the fun, and the talks.”
The Eagles picked White out of the University of Tennessee in the sixth round of the 1996 draught. However, the Eagles let him go during the preseason, and Tampa Bay picked him up.
White played in 94 NFL games, where he made a total of 119 tackles and 11.5 sacks.
His best game was against Washington in the NFC divisional playoffs in 1999. He had seven tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble. The 20 yards from his two sacks and the forced fumble that led to Tampa Bay’s winning touchdown helped them win 14-13. White was named Defensive Player of the Week because he played well.
