The School for Good and Evil written by Soman Chainani will soon be available on Netflix as a live-action version. It has a release date of October 19th and is just one of the movies Deadline said would be available on Netflix this fall and holiday season. This film will kick off the streaming service’s Halloween season along with Mr. Harrigan’s Phone (premiering on October 5), The Curse of Bridge Hollow (premiering on October 14), and The Good Nurse.
Sophie and Agatha, best friends since childhood, find themselves on opposite sides of an ancient struggle to maintain the balance of a magical world in The School for Good and Evil, based on a best-selling book series by Chainani. As they undergo training at the eponymous academy, the two must learn whether they will play the part of hero or evil in the plot.
Outside of good and evil?
The film, starring Sofia Wylie (Agatha) and Sophia Anne Caruso (Sophie), and directed by Paul Feig (Ghostbusters), aims to reimagine classic fairy tales. The filmmaker spoke highly of Chainani’s world while discussing the future production. “I’m truly excited to bring this amazing, touching, funny, and empowering world that Soman created in his wonderful books to life. I feel like a frog that just turned into a prince,” Feig said.
In addition to Wylie and Sophia, the film also has an impressive ensemble cast.
Charlize Theron, known for her role in Mad Max: Fury Road and Kerry Washington, known for her role in Scandal, are just two of the numerous actresses named. Washington will take on the role of Professor Clarissa Dovey, Dean of Good at the school, and Theron will play Lady Lesso, the former Dean of Evil.
Also Chainani and Feig, both producers on the picture, have spoken enthusiastically about its impending premiere. Chainani stated his excitement at the opportunity to collaborate with Feig and adapt his novel for the big screen. “To have one of your favorite directors adapt your book into a film for Netflix is an honor and a dream,” he said.
“Paul Feig is a brilliant filmmaker and a master of tone — a perfect fit for the twists and turns of The School for Good & Evil. I do not doubt that he will make a true fairy tale classic.” On October 19, The School for Good and Evil will be available on Netflix.
