The Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, has passed away. The first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth), Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London. In 1936, after his brother King Edward VIII abdicated, Elizabeth’s father became the monarch.
She received a private, at-home education and got her first taste of public service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. She wed Philip Mountbatten, a former Greek and Danish royal, in November 1947, and the couple remained together until his death in April 2021. They had four children together: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
After doctors voiced concern, Buckingham Palace stated on September 8, 2022, that the Queen was under medical observation at Balmoral. The statement read, “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.” The Queen’s four sons, two daughters-in-law, and Prince William and Prince Harry made the trip to be with their grandmother.
Following reports of the Queen’s illness, many royal family members made the trip to Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands to be with her before she passed away.
Prince Harry traveled to Scotland to be with his grandmother in addition to the other “senior royals,” which included the Queen’s eldest son and the heirs to the throne Prince Charles and Prince William.
Every single person in the United Kingdom is devastated by the loss of the queen. As her family and our entire nation mourn her passing, may her soul rest in peace.
